I thought it was just the greasable cams that people had trouble with?

Anyway, these are tie rods. Hopefully they work ok.

 

They are hit and miss on 2nd gens. I will be curious to see how this works out for Eric.

 

I've not heard good things about their ball joints. Not sure on tie rods.

 

they have grease zerks for the ball joint....

I have the Moog lower ball joints on my truck for about 5k now no problem. I should hit the zerk soon

 

James said his LBJ s with zerks had play in them when removed. Lots of first gens have had issues with LBJ s too.

You're probably OK, but keep an eye on them and bring spares. For what we do I'd be cautious about replacing steering/suspension components with anything other than OEM.

 

You can't buy the ball joint from toyota without the arm with it so it's not even an option really and totally justifies the total chaos lowers if you are that concerned. I've run Moog joints on other vehicles that were fine for long term. These have zerks so I'd assume they are even better than prior Moog parts I have used. Quit fear mongering kid

 

So the taco is down. I had a big pop in my exhaust and it ran ok above 30 MPH. I barley made it home and it idled ruff. It smelled like a rotten egg smell so i'm thinking my cat took a shit. It won't start now that I turned it off. Any ideas? I guess this weekend I'll pull the cat and see if the truck will start. unless someone else can give me an idea how to trouble shoot that.

 

I still haven't heard bad first hand experience with the cams and tie rods..
(I have both with no complaints)

35mm socket.....

When I changed my front diff bushing, I borrowed one from Vatozone.
I would like to own one to keep in the truck. Anyone know if harbor freight has one or where the best place to get one might be?

 

Assuming you don't mind a 3/4" to 1/2" (if thats what you are carrying) adapter and an impact socket Harbor freight carries them in this set

So far, I like the socket set idea for $40 as I think I heard some aftermarket axle nuts are 36mm

 

When my tire blew out last weekend a friend was following and while I was getting the truck jacked up and taking the blown tire off to put the spare on my friend (who's a guy) was like "don't you have roadside assistance?" "man you're handy." What's wrong with my generation who can't even change a freakin tire?!
