Today marks my 7th year in business for myself. 27 years as a commercial locksmith/door whore.

 

Congrats on being your own boss and making it through 7 tough years for the industry. My father is a locksmith as well (50+ years total and about 25 as his own boss). Whats your company's name? I'll have to ask him if he knows you. I'll also have to let him know he's a total door whore haha

The first 3 years were the hardest. Almost lost my house during the 2nd year. Now the business just seems to roll along on it's own, house is almost paid for.

My dads company is Premier Security. He can and does just about anything lock related except automotive.

 

Same here, no cars, absolutely no residential. No safes either, lots of other companies specialize in that stuff so I don't see the niche for me.

 

Yeah, 13" ain't going to cut it. Your stock bottle jack has more travel than that even if it is slower than molasses.

 

I appreciate the interest, but you may want to stay local with your locksmithing needs, I rarely make trips to Denver, like none in the last 3 years, and would be unable to handle any emergencies should they arise. Farthest South I usually travel is Longmont. Occasionally Boulder, never for key jobs. The majority of what I do is repair and retrofitting, custom doors, impossible jobs, etc...
I'd give @mountainmonkey 's dad a call, looks like he's in Littleton. With 50 years under his belt I'm sure he could handle it.
