I filled up for $1.679/gal last night using the gas price finder built into the 2nd gen head unit. Driving a mile down the road saved me $0.35/gal. Saw one station closer to home still up at $2.29/gal for the cheap stuff. Crazy how varied the prices are.

    It most definitely does.

Boost is the difference between atmospheric air pressure and what's going into the engine.

S/C's put out lower boost then tubo's usually; but S/C's have it available right off the bottom of the RPM range unlike turbo's which usually take 2-2.5k rpm in cars to really spin up and provide boost.

I think the taco s/c is 6-8 psi of boost if I recall. Most turbo's are 16-30 for factory systems more for aftermarket or performance systems.

Internet searches say 8.5 lbs boost.

Makes sense though; 8.5 psi is not much in either the taco or tundra so it shouldn't stress the seals too much and provide more power and still retain longer engine life.

Now that you mention it, I recall reading something about that..
And I agree. Toyota wouldnt add to much in or it would not be "safe" from a manufacture stand point.

I wanted one for the taco before they ceased production and prices spiraled out of control. You could even go for more boost in Denver and higher elevations; the sea level atmospheric pressure is 14.7psi; at 6000' it's only 11.8 so 2.9psi difference. That is mainly why non forced induction (turbo or s/c'ed) vehicles in Denver have about 80% of the power that they do at sea level; this is also why we can run lower octane gas at elevation. In theory you could put a 2.9psi supercharger on a truck in Denver and the engine mostly would wear like it would driving at sea level. Or you could go 2-3 psi above what the TRD charger provides to equal it out. That is assuming you don't descend in altitude; or if you do then it'd be more stress on the engine.

Some fighters in WWII had turbo-normalizers which maintained 14.7psi going into the engine and bleeding off any excess pressure beyond that so it wouldn't overstress the engine thus they can be built lighter which means a more maneuverable fighter.

That is crazy. I doubt we will get that low in southern Colorado.

I have often dreamed about supercharging my 4runner, with 200k on the engine it may not be a smart idea in terms of longevity. I live at 7600 and spend a lot of time around 10k feet. I can always tell the difference driving on the front range. :burnrubber:

I can tell a big difference when drive down to Phoenix to see my Dad. 1500' or so; same on the motorcycles. On my old 950 Adventure I was on Highway 101 coming down through Oregon along the coast and came around a corner to an straight stretch of highway. I grabbed a handful of throttle which I've done many times in the mountains here in CO but this time the front wheel came off the ground a little and I was like "WHOA, that's new". [IMG]

Guy just rings my door bell. I open door and stare at him and say can I help you... He then stutters sorry I did not see your no soliciting sign until after I rang the door bell, I continue to stare for him to leave, like I was going to change my mind and listen to his speech... I guess I have to advertise I don't want to buy what anyone is selling at my door better. I hate when people try and sell me things at my door. I buy all my neighbors/friends kids stuff they sell but I draw the line there.

I get door to doors all the time. I love the hurt expression when I say not interested, after the sales pitch. makes my day to piss somebody off.

I don't even want to hear the sales pitch! Like I said I'll buy the stuff from the neighbors kids but for some reason my neighborhood has a million solicitors wandering around it. You would figure the amount I'm a dick to them they would talk and stop coming. Im going to start going through my garage and pulling the hose out to spray them down. I have a camera on my front door if I ever do it I'll post a video lol.
