I lived in Buena Vista when I was around 10 years old, moved away and haven't been back since. Very soon I will be seperating from the Marine Corps and looking to get back to CO. What are theh good areas around there for my family and I? Low crime...good schools...decent economy (and where is all the good wheeling?!!) Three of the big reasons I won't be returning to NY. Thanks in advance everyone.

First thank you for your service sir, secondly any of the areas in Douglas County are good for those three things but can be pricey. if you are looking for a small town feel there are many of those around that are close to the bigger cities, for example Elizabeth is about 20 min away from Parker and about 40 min away from Denver. if you like the outdoors then I would say go up and explore what will best suit you (although Conifer areas are really nice). Good luck in your hunt man!

I have hit Hawaii on AM to the west and can get most of the east coast depending on skip. On side band (you don't use much power on that band) I have reached as far as Australia and England. I have hit Brazil also, only one contact down in south America, most don't speak English.

I'm not very edumakated on the technicalities of the differences between ham and cb.

But, they operate on different frequencies, you need an amateur radio license to use it. There are a bunch of different bands (i think they are called) that you can use as well. It can be a great thing to have if you need help when out there because you can hit a repeater in the area and call for help when you won't have cell service.

But they are like talking on cell phones compared to the static filled cb setups and you can get a handheld radio for $25 that works great for trail riding needs, but still has enough power to listen to people pretty far away.

Again, i am no expert but on trail runs, i am thrilled when everyone has ham since i can actually hear and converse with people.

Repeaters must be know and programmed to the radio prior to getting lost/broken/stuck, otherwise your in the same boat as a CB.

CB does require a proper antenna network to function properly. 2m ham is not as picky but still can suffer from the same issues. Most 4wheeler who setup CB don't take the time/dedication to antenna network and suffer from a crap setup.

Some of the functions of HAM is cool, APRS really raises and eyebrow for me. The formality of call signs and other regulations makes me want to sit in my own Dutch oven.

I don't know what else there is to say. I have both and prefer ham for clarity and distance

Have you taken the tour? It's pretty awesome. Their beer aged in wine barrels was my favorite. But, and don't hate me for saying this...I feel like New Belgium is becoming too overrated.
