St. Peters in FoCo. I don't know of anything in Denver.
They ain't cheap though. Do you know what weight and length you are looking for?
Cabela's or Sportsman's will let you whip a few around too. I actually get my stuff there anyway.

Nope, literally just getting started. I'll probably go down to Cabella's and pick a salesman's brain for a bit.

The difference between cheep and expensive fly rods is largely in the action. A good fly rod will be flexible and smooth so that it can "shoot" out your line/fly. Doesn't mean you have to buy something really expensive, especially if you're just starting out.....but a nice rod is worth the money if you plan to stick with it and get out there a lot.

So fly fishing can be a very insidious addiction and affects everybody... differently...
Some guys own a rod or two, like me, and buy flies off the rack. And have a good time.
Then there's my brother with 17 different fly rods, 3 of them are custom hand made to order in the 4 digit dollar range, his custom hand built table for hand tied flies, guided river trips, etc...

I would stay in the $150.00-$200.00 range. Don't get the Shakespeare starter pack.
A good variable use rod is 8.5' and 5/6 weight. If you like it you won't have just one.

I have one of the 22" high queen-sized air mattresses from Walmart that I used all last summer as a bed when I was camping. I top off the air before bed and then even with temp swings of 20-30 degrees it still stays well inflated. After about 4 months of every-day use it was leaking a bit more but not enough that I woke up uncomfortable when new in the first 2.5 months of use I only had to top it off every few days after a day when it stretches out at first use. It was nice to be able to sit on the edge of the "bed" to put socks on and stuff.

Sounds good. I could have my truck down for a while, with the third or clamshell pulled, but I do not have a location to store my truck while it's down. If you'd like I can send you a PM. My goal would to be to regear to 4.88s front and rear, with a Detroit in the rear... but I only need the Detroid swapped (from a TruTrac) at the moment. Swapping you my old parts wouldn't be a big deal.

Is there a good place to buy thirds and clamshells locally?

Better to ask what I have not done.
If you used one of our thirds the truck would only be down the time it takes to swap out the two regeared ones with yours. And they are worth there weight in gold it seams when it comes to finding them

Callie and I would like to for a day/night! I need to get the new skid bent up this week/weekend, so it'll only be for a day. I really need to give the rig a shakedown. What's the tentative plan? I didn't read the conversation :anonymous:

Odds are we'd be up for a day this weekend. Shoot me a text when you have some places figured out. I'll think of some too.
