is there a spring? try taking it out if so. people tend to forget that the spring adds to the overall height of an antenna

No spring. It's a pretty flexible whip.

I'm not sure that's it either. @ashrr213 took his fender down to bare metal where we grounded it.

I didn't get any pics with our creative mount job unfortunately. just some of the wiring.

Not sure if this could be part of it...I know you're not supposed to coil excess wire, but we did make a nice figure 8 with a good 8 or 9 feet of excess coax under the seat.

It was a wilson 4ft whip...don't know the model number, but the tip looked like the one here:

    http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005ALD33K

Now that I think about it could be a grounding issue...there was another lead off the bottom of the antenna that the instructions said not to attach at first... we never tried attaching that and checking the readings

I was actually just looking at these! Good to hear from someone who's used one. Home Depot advertises some 3in foam that I'm gonna check out, but I'm leaning towards just biting the bullet and getting one of these. Thanks for the advice!

I need to pull out my CB and reconfigure it. I stashed it when someone stole my antenna while I was in Houston

Never used a bidet before? It's awkward the first time, and I don't prefer to use them as opposed to TP but damn they are refreshing on the backside
