I ran a K&N with no issues but numerous others have reported a similar issue as yours. Typically it comes from applying too much oil to the filter after cleaning. I moved to an AEM Pro Dry washable. They are great and all you do is wash them out when they get dirty. Move to that if you can.

Oh you are running a K&N cone filter. Gotcha. Yeah that's a whole different story.

Get the new safari snorkel and use an AEM pro dry on your stock box. That should really be all you need.

If @thefatkid vetted the mount, then it could be that the antenna is too close to the roof of the cab. When we were tuning @RockyMtnTRD 's radio, the SWR was off the charts until we moved the antenna to the back of the bed.

I also started out with a Wilson 4' whip, but no amount of shortening the antenna would give me a good tune. I removed the tuning tip, tried attaching that ground cable, attached the antenna directly to the mount, but nothing would get me a good SWR (even though the SWR did move down a little with each thing I tried). Eventually I just gave up and got a 3' antenna.

Looked like he has some grounding issues to start out. Once a little more paint is removed another test will need to be done.

Forgive my ignorance but why would you have trouble tuning an antenna if it's mounted same height as the cab?

    And what's a braided strap?

The more antenna above the cab the better. If it's level or below the cab then it becomes a problem. The cab effectively blocks the signal. Location has a great deal to do with CB antenna mounting on a vehicle. Top of the roof dead center is the best but not always practical.

    Just a ground strap

I have two of these. One to the hood and one to the engine compartment.

So if my antenna is mounted on top of my bed cage and my bed cage is mounted to truck bed using the bed bolts, will I need to use a braided strap to ground antenna?

If it's the plastic bed, then yes.
