This is what I plan on doing for my first gen tailgate.

The concept, I'm sure, still applies to your truck. May just need different materials? Or maybe not.

I read some of his thread and unreal the number of "holes" you must seal to try to keep dust out of topper.

    Stuff and junk and things...

Did you ever get the full droop clunk like described in those threads? FYI if you droop to far the stock upper arm can and will run into the coil spring.

Let me know if you need to use the coil spring compressor again.

Oh yeah, the clunk was there, I just figured it was part of the deal since everyone was all about OME when I was looking for lift options. :D It wasnt as bad as his happening every time, but it would do it when it quickly dropped the suspension. I grew used to hearing it and not sure when it stopped, but it did stop after it busted off the washers from the shock haha.

Thanks, havent heard back from ARB but I dont plan on swapping out for the new stuff that they sent since it seems like I'll still have limited travel, just with a harsher ride. If no other option, I'll just suck it up for a while and maybe eventually go with the 5100s.

I did grab a package of automotive weatherstripping from HD just to try and seal up the large areas to see if it'll help a little bit. But the area by the hinges and up where the tailgate meets the bed which meets the topper still has a good air gap which i did not try and tackle yesterday.

I sealed mine and there is more than the tailgate that needs attention.

Under the bed rail itself, there are a series of holes that run the length of the bed. (1st gen only I think) These are direct access to the space between the inner and outer skin of the bed and all the dust that gets under there comes through those holes as well.

I used that Great Stuff foam sealant.
I taped newspaper along the floor of the bed and up the sides to catch the foam droppings, and there will be a bunch because the stuff can't fight gravity right away.
Just start filling the holes. You should see foam dropping on the ground too as it expands between the inner and outer skin.
After it's dry, and not before, can't stress this enough, you can come back and easily trim up what ever mess was made.

Between that and the weatherstripping around the gate, I can bomb down the driest dusty roads and have very minimal dust get inside.

:annoyed: I wonder if that hurts the resale value if people are getting rid of their 3rd gen already.

That would only matter if you intend to sell in next 6 years.

I think you worry about stuff way too much.

Toyota was too conservative in the '16 model year update, or people realize they can get into a full-size truck (if they don't mind a bigger truck anyway) for the same or less money then the ridiculous prices on the new tacos.
