    snake oil.

They reason you had to get the Access Port for your subie is the aftermarket tube was the wrong size. MAF's are calibrated to the size of the tube they are in, -/+ a couple percent. These aren't the OG speed density small blocks of the 80's and 90's.

@NYCO had one before his snorkel. He might be able to attest to any real world performance gains on it.

Interesting. So your thoughts on snorkels? Primarily the retrofitted Hilux 3" safari snorkel vs the new 2nd gen fitted Safari Snorkel that is 4" dia. Or does the length of tube pretty much change the game.

power gains were minimal really...throttle response was a bit snappier...MPG gains were nice (1-2mpg)

you'd want to make sure you get a URD MAF calibrator to help with your fuel trims though. with a smaller diameter intake, you'll end up running a bit rich with the CAI, the URD will help with that for the most part

i had the volant with the ram scoop before i went to the snorkel

edit: i see you have a '16...not sure how the tubes compare to OEM and not sure whether you'd have any options from URD yet...

Snorkels still use or should use the factory airbox and intake pipe the MAF is in so doesn't apply to someone putting on a CAI. The tube before the air filter and MAF can be whatever size you want to not restrict flow.

Now that said I have a Crap and N "CAI" tube on my truck, bought it many years ago and pull it off when I didn't see any gains. I put it back on with a AEM dry filter as my 3rd gen 4runner had a cracked stock box. BUT I can tune my truck to account for the % difference the tube is off to get my AFR's where I want and need them to be.

Better throttle response alone would be worth it to me.

how often are you in that power band of 3500+rpm?

i know the '16s lack some power and maybe run up there more than the 4.0s do, but i know i only am 3000+ when i'm >77mph or hard acceleration...even then, i'm rarely hitting >3500

Very often. I have a bit of a lead foot. Highway speeds not so much. At 80mph I'm running 2K rpms.

The cam profile on the 4.0 is really inhibited in the mid to top end. A CAI isn't going to make that any better. Plus most of the time I've done intake changes it takes away from the low end to give to the high end. I want as much low-end in the truck as possible; not to mention the engines don't rev that quickly to begin with which means you won't be be in the RPM range that a CAI influences very much or that often.

    But that's just my $0.02
