Fellas, we're doing a trip to telluride/ouray area and planning on hitting as many trails as we can. My question, is it better to camp at one spot and come back there each night or find good places along whichever trail we happen to be on? Were going wed-sat so hopefully most people are working

If your trying to hit as many trails as possible then camp as needed. Was just there last weekend Thur-Monday and we had a base just west of Lake City but man was it a long day when we went all the way over to Telluride and back on 4x4 trails. All the FJ trail parades (FJ summit event) and Texans in Full Size shit didn't help.

76" of stretch out room! Family of 4. I still might be stuck sleeping in the annex on a cot.

I'm hoping to make a family trip to White Rim and this should make it easier at camp at least. I could always build a trailer for it to base camp with also.

Nice! I did the 4 person as well. I say build a trailer, I built a trailer specifically for the RTT after the wife surprised me on Fathers Day with it.

It's tourist season, so I wouldn't count on less crowds because people are working. It kind of depends where you camp/find a spot as to whether or not it would make a good base. You might look at two base camps, one for the trails between Lake City and Silverton, and then one for those between Ouray and Telluride. Keep in mind that there are several 14ers in the area as well, and that combined with the 4x4 activity can lead to full camp sites in a hurry. There are also some trails that do not have any legal camping along them, or only in very specific spots. For example on Imogene, aside from the two NFS campgrounds down by Ouray, there is no legal camping anywhere except Savage Basin, just below the pass on the Telluride side.

My favorite spot for a base camp at least for the Lake City/Silverton complex is a spur off Cinnamon Pass, a little below the American Basin turnoff. You might also try for camps on the 550 side/middle. As Steve said it can be a pretty long day if you go from Lake City all the way over to Telluride and back. If you're on 550 and take a day going east or west, it's not as bad. Our longest day of just trail running and hitting as much as possible, we started at the aforementioned campsite (where we'd been for two nights, climbing Redcloud the previous day), went down to Animas Forks for breakfast, then a little farther to Picayne/Placer Gulch, loop back over those almost into Animas again, then up over California to Hurricane to Corkscrew and down to 550 to Ouray for a couple nights. Also spent a day just on Imogene, getting up in Telluride that morning, driving east over the pass w/o stopping to a particular spot/waterfall, then taking a nice leisurely drive back to Telluride stopping anywhere that looked interesting.

Hey Colorado folks. I'm from Alabama, but I'm coming out to Fort Carson next week for work and was wondering if there were any great recommendations in the Colorado Springs area for restaurants or activities if I have any free time? Thanks in advance!!

DDD? What about the Airplane Restaurant? I will be in a hotel right beside the Colorado Springs Airport.
