Interesting that you bring this up. I told myself last year that I was going to do this, not because I was required to. I found out that the majority of the money we get for trail maintenance and signage comes from the OHV fund. We as 4wheeler contribute very little compared to other user groups yet we ask for equal donations. My hope is that they will see the influx of full sized vehicles and contribute more money to our causes.

I used to have a pair of ditch lights in that same style but got rid of them because the light was too blue and I didn't particularly like the way they looked and sat on the truck. The build quality was also not that great - the metal is thin and some of the fins on the back were bent, "stainless steel" bracket and hardware started rusting, etc.

If you're not in a rush, maybe consider the @Iggy lights group buy: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/group-buy-iggy-lights-2-0.469785/

I have a pair of the pods that are basically Rigid Dually equivalents in terms of output and build quality. Compared to my Rigids, the color of the light is just a touch cooler.

At $25 it shouldn't be difficult for most to do. Is the end result simply a sticker you place somewhere visible (similar to those found on ATVs and dirtbikes)?

That for a different truck, I have to go down again this year to prove ownership. They took registration last year, might bring a title to be safe though

I mean, I'm sure it would work but you'd probably want something with bigger drawers.

I have dirt biked here in Colorado for 42 years and wondered about when they would get around to being consistent about enforcement on OHV permits Such a gray area. For me with my dirt bikes I have always purchased the OHV permits and have found that the OHV money definitely goes into trail and OHV parking lot improvements that I can see with my own eyes. I have also gone the route of plating my dirt bikes so that I dont run into issues of this road is county maintained and you must be plated and it literally can vary by each municipality or county as to what roads are off limits to OHVs. Unfortunately, the annual plating/registration fees at about $75 per bike per year and those funds don't go to any forest service road or 4wd road maintenance just the Colorado General Fund.

For you four wheelers, I see zero money from OHV permits going in to 4WD trail maintenance, but merely into trails less than 50" wide meant for ATVs, MC, mountain bikes, horses and hikers. One of the long standing claims by the plated dirt bike guys is that if we have to pay both the annual plating fee and we have to pay OHV permit it is not fair....what about the 4wheelers who are out in the backcountry too with only a license plate! Of course the standard answer we received was that we must buy the permit to access the less than 50" wide trails and that's why the 4wheelers dont have to pay since they dont go on those trails.

So are they now saying that on all those trails listed in your thread that you 4 wheelers have to pay the OHV permit fee? I can see some benefit, if they pour some of the dollars into maintaining those 4WD trails. But, without looking at each one, I would say from my quick skim that most these roads were built int he mining era (many as former toll roads built by private enterprises) and then became forest service roads(FSRs) after the establishment of national forests in the US.

Should be interesting to see where this goes. I think most people are wiling to pay some reasonable 4WD or backcountry offroadingpermitting fees so long as the money is put back into maintaining things. Right now, I cant see how that will work with the OHV fees. I know that I certainly don't want to have to pay $25.25 per year per motorcycle for OHV fees to go on trails less than 50" wide, pay a license plate fee (approx $75/yr + insurance cost) and then have to pay another fee for using the double track 4WD roads. I would be interested to hear the 4 wheeler crowd perspective on this. By the way, I also use those 4WD roads in my Toyota FJ Cruiser to get to many motorcycle riding locations and sometimes do 4 wheeling rather than dirt biking.

Think of it this way. It is not a requirement, it is an investment into the future of keeping trail open for 4wheeling use. A pathway for funds/grants to go towards our causes. $25 a year that could possibly open/keep open trails (they have been using these funds to open new single track and atv trails). It is not required, so if you don't want to, no worries. I'm going to do $50 this year for both trucks.

I'm trying to pull this out of event planning thread

Almost all signage comes from the OHV funds. The OHV fund does not provide many dollars to trail building for 4wd use because we are not a primary user group/contributor. That is changing though as they are investing to keep some trails open through funding for maintenance.

Honestly, almost all of the trails NYCO lists were OHV fund created, though, we could never take a bodies truck though them. The requirements for those trails typically start at 37" tires.

Like I said though. 4wd usage is the smallest user group for fund contribution.

some of those trail, not most.
Not disagreeing with you, just pointing out a lot of them were mining trails and routes over the passes. Not created by any fund, but possibly currently maintained by one.
