Sorry, I replied in the wrong thread. I'm in Highlands Ranch, so south would work better for me. I'll PM you once I decide on it.

    What haven’t I changed?
I thought that would work well, and I have an input on my headunit for a front camera, but when I tried using my reverse camera to back up in a rock garden on MSV I notice that everything looked flat on the screen. Big rocks, little rocks, couldn't tell the difference.

I've got green pads on mine only complaint is they're a bit dusty. But a black rim solves that

@Star-Lord did that cheap Chinese video camera you had show any depth?

Maybe it's a fish eye lens causing the lack of depth, but providing greater "range"?

I don't recommend that camera unless you are only interested in 1-2 uses of it.

I remember Colfax back in the good old days, back when you could toss beer bottles at prostitutes with not a care in the world. Is that topless coffee shop still in business? And the bikini donut hawse?
    I hear it's changed quite a bit.

Coffee shop still is last time I drove past there but it is now not topless but scantily covered

    I grew up in Aurora
You couldn't pay me enough money to live there again.. Not where I grew up anyway..
Colfax has changed a lot since I was a kid prowling the streets..
My mom still has a house off 6th and Havana I see people slinging dope all the time right down the street..
my neighborhood can be pretty shady but I like it over here
There's a lot of flavors of people..
    It's interesting

The issue isn't depth of field (which is basically what's in focus), it's distortion combined with no depth perception/representation (only one point of view, so no parallax or depth to anything). Small/action cams usually have a wide angle lens, with a wide field of view. You can get small ones that don't, but they also don't see as much and therefore have limited use in an auto application. The distortion comes from trying to fit the larger field of view onto the same size image frame/plane/whatever. Think of a regular sheet of paper and trying to draw everything in a 90 degree arc in front of you on that paper. Then try doing it on the same paper but with a 180 degree view. The lens is truest in the center, and the closer to the edges you get the more distorted it is. Same as one of those convex mirrors you can stick on your side mirror or they have at hallway/other blind intersections. Things out toward the edge look bigger than they are, throwing your sense of scale off, which combined with the lack of parallax makes them pretty useless for spatial... reasoning? Not sure what word I'm looking for there. That's why most auto cam systems overlay some kind of reference lines for wheel track and rear lines of the vehicle. I doubt you can program one of those custom, but the best thing you could do would be mark out on a flat surface in front of the vehicle every however many feet, then put some kind of overlay on your monitor and trace off where those lines are. And you have to do it after you've decided on the permanent location for the camera, because a slight height relocation makes a huge difference.

I was a motorcycle mechanic at a shop on east Colfax for a few years. We watched trashy hookers get picked up and dropped off in the parking lot on a daily. We'd also watch well dressed businessmen park two blocks away and walk over to the gay bath house. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Just thought the stealthiness was comical.

Living in NE Aurora is interesting. Gunshots. Police helicopters. People who hide in my backyard running from the police. The ever-present smell of weed in a 5-mile radius. Gang wars.

Look out my back window and see 400k+ houses, one of Panasonic's global headquarters, a fantastic beer garden, several well-stocked liquor stores, a nice charter school, the impending Grand Old Opry resort, and the occasional Ferrari.

Nothing makes sense. I'm curious to see how the new, white, and well-off bleed into Montbello. I feel like I'm caught in the middle.
