I know you measured, but none of the other measurements I've seen online seem consistent. I've seen discrepancies almost up to an inch. I may have to measure a stock 15 and 16 to be satisfied.

All the second gens i have done measure 56 at the cab point, thus being the correct width, and yours, and the other two 3rd gens have measured 56.75

Sorry I missed the beginning of the conversation. What product are you looking at anyways for your truck? I will tell you what if it's a bed rack that sits on the rails, just say NO! Otherwise you are going to end up spreading the Bed so wide it will be a Tundra!

I don't want it to mount to the rails, but I plan on getting the decked system when it comes out for the tacoma so I don't have many options. Besides I don't plan to have the tent mounted 100% of the time. I think less weight combined with the bed stiffeners and I'll be okay.

The weight of a simple short bed canopy alone is enough to spread those bed rails.
    Something to think about.

Easy fix, instead of buying whatever it is you want to buy, get a 1st gen and then look for accessories on that instead. Good news is accessories will probably be cheaper so you'll be saving money.
