Actually @Star-Lord I will probably need to bring you some beers since I need your help replacing some wheel hubs soon.

just wait until you have your first senior moment.

what's wrong with a nipple? I noticed @Squeaky Penguin had a piece of hose attached with a clamp to his nipple.

What I want to know is he was pliers in hand to dismantle the thing but never moved the lever. How does that happen?

Step 1: valve open when lever in line with valve, check
Step 2: who the hell needs a step two, check
Step 3: I'mma tear this sumbitch apart, check

The nipple sticks straight down, it's really not a problem... if you have decent skid plates.

I thought you just had to squeeze the lever. I didn't realize it moved to the side. Which is a relief as I thought i was supposed to hold the damn lever while it drained.
And yes, I was gonna tear it apart and "fix it" Prolly would have lost an eye.

Don't worry about him and his silly 2nd gen. His skid sat too close to the valve, and the skid hit it and dented the oil pan.

Mine has been fine for the last 5 years or so, which of course includes lots of smashing the skid.

The hose is nice, so I can change the oil without dropping the skid or making a mess. Until I remove the oil filter and let it drip all over the place.

Oh that would suck. "Press thumb here" hold for 8-10 minutes until oil stops trickling out or until hand falls off. Someone would need a swift kick in the balls if that was the design objective.

I really had no idea what to expect. I hear everybody rave about them, then mine shows up wide open and I assume it was a quality control issue. I even banged it on the table a few times to see if it was stuck.

Oil filter location might be the one good thing I have to say about 2nd gens.

Ours are a pain. I used to change mine through the wheel well, and then I welded a coil bucket gusset right in the way... :anonymous:

Maybe it sits higher on the worst gens.

Mine ends a good 1/2" above a very heavy duty pelfreybilt skid.

It also sits over a hole provided for it. No amount of deflection of the skid alone would cause a problem. Had to have been the perfect storm of full weight of the truck on the skid (may have happened occasionally :D) coupled with a rock that protruded up through the hole.
At any rate, the nipple on mine has rock rash and the oil pan is bent slightly.
That said, it's been that way for a long time now and nothing leaks so......

@Star-Lord What should I get, seems you have more insight on this than on a valve fitting
