Sounds like a bit of a late start to me. If you're planning to take 5-6 weeks to finish the trail you'll likely have to deal with some snow by the end of your trip.

Correct, last labor day I cancelled with the snow closing high passes already, although I think Asher went and it was good (Melting happens too)

We're not worried about the snow. I think we'll end up finishing around the 4 week mark honestly. It really depends what kind of pace we plan on pushing, and that'll most likely be in the high teen's to low twenty's per day.

I just jumped on the promo for the Cabela's 40qt... Cabela's card is possibly the worst card, Car Care One (4Wheel Parts, Discount Tire, CarToys) is probably the worst... far too tempting to take advantage of offers.

We've been planning this for a while. I have the most current map, but need to get the newest book on it since mine is a couple years old.

There's no such thing as being too out of shape. After a week on the trail you'll be feeling pretty good, and after a couple weeks you'll start to find your groove. After hiking the AT in 2015 we've been itching to get back out on something long. We plan on spending the next couple years hiking around, and the Colorado Trail is just the beginning.

Awesome and Congrats on AT, grew up not far off trial in Western Maryland. Back when economy/ marriage went to shit I was going to give the AT a go if I got laid off (better or worse they didn't happen)

It was a great trail, and I'm glad we got it done when we did. A small group of entitled hikers are ruining that trail for future hikers, and those entitled hikers are growing in numbers each year. Many locals along the trail have had bad encounters with hikers, property stolen, property damage, and some hikers even skip out on their bills at the hostels along the way. It's pretty sad to hear about all the good people that get taken advantage, and close up shop for that same reason.

Brandon might know more about class and requirements for Colorado 4x4 Rescue and Recovery
    @aero3685

    First Class- Recovery Skills I

We have just completed our first CO4x4RnR recovery skills training class with Matt Balazs from On Trail Training and it was a great success. We had 11 eager students who spent the day learning all they could from basic safety, to line loads, to hi-lift uses and basic trail repairs. We have already been asked by many when our next class is.
OUR NEXT CLASS WILL BE SATURDAY MAY 27TH

Not sure if there are any real requirements. But if you aren't a member of CO 4x4 R&R, join... It's free.

And Matt is great, haven't been to any of his classes but have worked with him on some good recoveries.

    Fun OnTrac update...

It's a known/documented/complained about problem all over the internet that they "deliver" packages before they drop them off to you, my guess is to make sure stuff is "delivered" on time for Amazon. Then they drop it off when and where they feel like it.

My package was "delivered" on Friday but nowhere to be found, drove down the driveway to look for it along the road over the weekend, and it wasn't anywhere mid yesterday.

But this morning it ended up in the mailbox... Covered in dirt, clearly had been outside. My guess is it was pitched somewhere along the bottom of the road and a neighbor found it and put it in the mailbox instead of bringing it up to the house like the first time it happened.

So at least i ended up getting it!

Basic membership is $35 which includes a ham radio as long as you're a member... So $85 would get you the class, a membership and a baofeng... Not a bad deal at all.
