I dont know, i inflated mine, another trucks, and gave my air hose to @alee891 before @TacoVio was done inflating his

 

Everyone forgets about the puma. It's what I'm running, for $250ish, you get compressor and tank. It is large, but you can separate them and make it fit better. The compressor would fit under the hood of earlier 2nd gens but mine has some emissions bullshit in the way.

Sup crackers! Chilling east of Jasper. Rainy day so I'll be doing probably three updates in my thread since I've got a bunch of pictures.

Unfortunately with fire season in full swing, Banff and Jasper are full of smoke so pictures were not as awesome as I'd hoped for. Last few days you could drive down the icefield parkway and just see the outlines of mountains in front of you. Phone won't load the upload thingy right now.

 

I'd imagine that is very similar to, if not exactly the same thing, as an MV90.

Seems like a lot of those portable 12v compressors are made in the same factories, with the same parts, just under different branding.

I used to run a Viar 400p. I feel the air up times were on the slower side of average. It did its job hundreds of times without complaint often doing more than one vehicle. It is/was reliable, no frills air. I rant the portable version and only recently sold it to switch to a hard mount. Racing an MV50 I found it completed 4 tires just as the MV50 completed 3. Racing a modded MV50 the finish was almost equal.

I carried CO2 forever and used to use that for fill-ups. It is way too fast and a waste if you are running with guys who air up with compressors. Typical results was 4 tires filled up before their 1st tire was filled. I'm getting my bottle re-certified to run again though, it does help when re-seating beads.

My new "hard mount" compressor is an ARB. I have not aired up with it yet. It is the large single piston version, not the baller twin. I'm making the switch to hard mount because I don't want to store it in the cabin anymore, if I had a truck I would stay with the 400p

Maybe this is the case with all compressors, but my MV50 gets scorching hot after filling two 31" tires from 18 to 35 psi. After three tires I can cook an egg on it, after four tires we set up chairs around it as if it's a campfire.

I usually let it rest for a few minutes between tires 2 and 3 but yesterday I was in no mood to sit around getting shellacked by hail.

 

That's a lot of hippie labor.

 

Look at the specs, it's cfm is almost the same as the Arb twin.


6.2 cfm Arb twin
5.3 cfm northern tool
2.5cfm mv50

 

my 2 cents is ARB, either Single or Twin.

 

No doubt it dwarfs the MV50. I was commenting on the MV90 which has 3.71 CFM output.

 

The 400p would boil water that would hit the cylinder head. Just seems normal for those little things.

 

Well my little $40

$98 viair 88P portable compressor kit (12V, 120 psi, forup to 33" tires)

viair 88P was only behind the $500 arb twin by maybe 3 minutes total. Both on 33's. My baby viair will fill up my 33's from 10-35 psi in 4-5 minutes per tire. Not lighting fast, but nearly keeps up with things 10X it's price.

 

I think you remember this wrong, even the box side stats say this is wrong. Unless you had significally more air pressure in your tires already than said ARB tire ones.

 

I see where you are going with this, but anecdotally I have had the same experience as Asher. When airing up with my cheap compressor I dont seem to lag far behind people using an ARB twin. Im with you that it doesnt make sense based on the stats, but that has been my experience. Definitely not 2.5x slower or whatever the CFM rates would suggest.

 

Wow if that's accurate, you have fantastic results.

I suppose if my MV50 is still going and will only be a few minutes behind bigger hard mount compressors... might as well keep it until it dies.

Although I swear Old Brett's smittybuilt inflated my tires much more quickly. Very noticeably so.
