I thought I was watching a Saturday night live parody or something. I still can't believe that's real.

    Oil change interval question:

Since I drive the Tacoma so little now I do not reach the 3000 mile interval until 6 or 7 months. It's always recommended "3000 miles or 3 months which ever comes first."

The date I "should" have changed my oil is 10/15/17. It's now 2/20/18 and I'm still only 2000 of 3000 miles into the interval.

Should I change the oil based on the calendar moving forward or mileage?

IMO... and endless discussions online are that the 3k mile/3 month oil change is from days past. You should follow the interval in your owners manual... for light use, there shouldn't be any reason 5-6k intervals are bad. You can also look/smell the oil and get a good idea of how worn it is.

I would change your oil every 3k miles or 12 months. They have better detergents than oils of the past, don't typically get as acidic as past oils. Going 5k miles on your truck is ok also. High mileage oils have extra conditioners to help keep oil seals soft.

Good to know about the 12 months. I appreciate your input.

    What hasn't been modified?
    This for conventional or synthetic?

Mobile one newest stuff is 1year 20k miles.

Personally I was thinking every other maintanince light to change since it’s moble one high mileage oil

I also don't drive a lot (I'll hit 75k this week on a truck in service since Oct. 2006). I'm second gen, so ours is 5k to start with, but I still don't hit that at the six month interval or whatever it is the manual says. I've elected to just keep doing service by mileage, and I do get at least one in every 12 months, sometimes two (don't have my records in front of me). In fact, did it this past weekend while everyone was up on 7 Mile since it was 66 degrees out and I knew that wasn't going to last or maybe come around again for a few weeks - especially not with 8-12 inches forecast for the following day. I also pay for the 15k Mobil 1 snyth stuff with completely no basis in technical reality, just telling myself extended mileage makes up for the time difference against mileage.

Yes, please. That looks much better than the bacon flavored Cheez Its I'm eating right now. Although the Cheez Its aren't half bad.

Your oil is not going to change unless it's ready and willing to change. Nothing you can say or do will change it.

About all you can do is replace it really.

A small handful of select mods.
But your engine use can "force" the change? :D
