@Star-Lord have you ever been up to the DC-6 plane crash on Crystal Mountain? Somebody was telling me about it today. Didn’t even know it existed. Looks like you can get to it off FR513.

 

• I have and it is currently inaccessible.due to landowner issues.
• @teamhypoxia and @Squeaky Penguin were at the gate with me a year or two ago.

 

Yeah I researched it a bit tonight and the landowner issues were mentioned. Just curious, because like I said, I didn’t know it existed.
Edit: I’ve read that Crystal Mountain has had ongoing landowner issues for years.

 

Ha! This reminds me of when I hucked a hummer in 29 palms. Not knowing the other side of the jump was another hill and nose dived into it crushing the passenger side fender and knocking off the dust separator for the intake. Stalled it out. After kicking in the fender and fixing the intake it started back up and we drove off. Good times for sure.

I didn't realize it had been this long, but my info is now . 'Landowner issues' is usually code for dealing with private individuals, but in this case it's the state. The State Land Board owns a Section that the trail runs through, and they lease it out for rec use. The lease terms govern access, and whether it's open to the public or only the lease holder. And at the time I last heard it was basically the state saying if public access was allowed, the lessee had to pay for maintaining the road and they didn't want to do that. Of course, all my info is basically third or worse hand, and way out of date (not even sure how long the leases ran or if it's still the same people) and @Star-Lord might be aware of much more current info being connected to the trail club and all.

 

I wouldn't worry about it too much, it's prolly gonna burn to the ground this summer anyway.
