Quite a few I've known that got newer 4runners quickly end up in land cruisers to be able to pull offroad trailers, but not sure about bigger trailers.

I've contemplated a 1st gen Tundra. More room for me (I'm huge, BTW), the baby seat can fit in the back (access cab; don't like the quad cab Tundra), and more powa. Also a bigger bed, which is a win. I'd imagine there is decent aftermarket support (suspension, etc.) for them also.

Don't know anything about the longevity of the 1st gen Tundra though. I know these 3.4 Tacomas can last for a very long time with routine maintenance. I need a rig that will last for a good while.

I think they are pretty good and reliable as can be. @Star-Lord got one and he still uses a hand come along with steel cable since it's more reliable than a synthetic lined winch. So that has to say something.

Speaking of. When are you selling your premier gen @Star-Lord

You can do a longer and heavier trailer w/ sequoia than what i have! If I was doing something with more hitch weight, would install the timbrens, even if the hitch weight meets specs the timbrens seem like a good idea.

I think 1st gen tundras are one of the best to build on. Similar size to 2nd gen tacomas, good aftermarket, V8 to turn dirty fives likes it's nothing. Only issue IMO is no manual transmission, auto is too boring off-road I've found recently driving my buddies rig

Here is the one I am looking at. It's 25' plus 3' for the front storage locker which makes it 28' total.

Don't know the price of that 25 footer but, I have wondered what one of these bad boys cost though. I thought about one of those RTTs but if I'm camping, I'm also going to be drinking once camp is set up. Nobody wants to discuss that one night where he (who shall not be named) tried to crawl into his RTT after several rounds with his favorite bourbon; and woke up at the base of the ladder all twisted and contorted. Nobody.

-Easy to haul with any SUV/truck (good for gas mileage I presume).
    -Easy parking just about anywhere.
    -Low maintenance (I would imagine).
-Cheaper than a full size RV/Trailer (I would hope).
-Pack up and pop-smoke with a quickness (if necessary; damn Zombies).
-Minimalist style (appeals to me, anyway).

Maybe a Sequoia could be set up to pull that. Depends on the balance and hitch weight. If it were me I’d be looking at a truck for that though. Most of the hitch weight capacities are based on unloaded vehicle, with driver in vehicle. If you’re going to put stuff in the back of the vehicle, and also the tongue weight, just need to make sure you are good and not maxing it out too much.

5.7 liter engine is a bullet proof masterpiece. But expect to get 8 mpg.

Yeah! I like this and am thinking long term to transition to an off-road setup. Mine I have taken on forest roads and it can get into pretty tight spots, but can’t go where these can for sure!

You won’t be able to put to much in that storage locker with a sequoia would be my assumption....

I just took my first trip with a setup like this (although not as nice). Was about 2,200 miles round trip over a weeks time. Pulled great with the taco but only managed ~10 mpg which made gas expenses pile up and since the taco has a relatively small tank I had to stop quite often to fill up. I’m sure the 5.7 in a sequoia wouldn’t even notice something like this though. It’s a great setup for trips but I wouldn’t want to live out of it for extended periods of time.

Love the 1st gen Tundra. It will easily replace my 1st gen taco for the next build.
Only real drawback/advantage is the extra size. Nice for packing more stuff, but pinstriping will be easier to achieve too..

My only issue with the smaller trailers is the beds are only 74" long. Me being 6'3" sucks sleeping on short beds like that. Freaking plane travel and now RV living.

I went the other way and went larger than smaller, Tundra would pull this fine except over the passes.

I know this suffering all too well (I'm also 6'3" tall). Way too many long (8hrs+) flights, cramped into coach/economy. Hopefully no more of that madness.

All this talk of camping. Starting to get the bug.

@thefatkid I am listening to your advice looking into the 21ft trailers now. I will be cursing your name if I can't sleep in the little bed though
