Awesome thanks, if it was you would you roll the dice or walk away knowing what you know about it for $10k? There was a little diff noise around 45-50mph didn’t really notice any noise at 70mph.

New cars don't even have a fuel filter, food for thought. Just a weak pickup screen in the tank.

I wouldn't for the biggest reason is you could find the same mileage 4runner or GX with better service history for the same price.

Is there an advantage to putting one in? Thinking back to my 22R-E the filter would protect the injectors from potentially plugging with debris and did eventually clog so must have been doing something. Although I still had to send them through Witchhunter. Is there some reason they don't? Are the fuel pressures higher or something stuff just get forced through?

I'd go with the simple fact that nothing built these days is built to last...

Dressed appropriately, it's not bad. As long as the wind isn't acting a fool. After my fingers and toes warm up or go numb, I'm good to go. I'd rather be outside anyways.

And we'll be framing the spec house in two weeks, so might as well get practice.

    wack

I've heard the claim that modern gas is clean enough to not have to worry about that and I imagine the changeover to using plastic fuel tanks helps as well

No advantage in most consumer cases. Anything big enough to get through the screen the engine can eat anyways. I've thought about trying add one because the environment we subject our vehicles to is not "average consumer". Don't want it to be just rubber hose addition though, don't want to introduce a point of failure.

That couldn't be further from the truth. Cost per repairs is lower then it has ever been when factoring in inflation. Average fleet mileage is way up, even to the point where the government enacts programs to get old vehicles off the roads by offering incentives. Old cars, as a whole pollute more and indicate a stagnate economy.

Buy a 70s or 80s care in like new shape and try and get it to run as long or well as a modern vehicle. There was a reason they only had 12k mile warranties.

74 bug wasn't babied all its life and runs smoother than either my $35k taco or $46k brand new tundra. But that's "normal" highway vibrations that Toyota doesn't want to fix.

Please, that bug will be the most unreliable vehicle you own. You're lying to yourself and everyone in here even to the point of discrediting anything automotive you say. The best bug has 10 times the noise, vibration and harshness of any new Tacoma.

Loud yes, but it was like driving on a cloud on 285 on pavement..

Toyota could do that if they addressed drive train vibrations, but they don't care. And EVERYONE complains about that, but let's just chalk it up as only a problem i have. Haha

I think we hit a peak point probably in the early 2000s. Mostly solved all the major problems with engine management and high quality manufacturing but still built a simple enough vehicle to be reliable. I sometimes think how good an FJ40 could be if they built it like they do a 200 series. I guess we actually know that, it's the 78/79-series trucks.
