They are not all AWD like I think you were looking for, so keep that in mind while looking. Solid cars, basically a Corolla. I'd shoot for A/C before power windows but I think that is standard. Not sure if the Matrix was offered with manual windows so that might not even be a worry.

Hey fellas! So hoping for suggestions and recommendations on some activities and places to visit. I am located in PA and about to head West with my Tacoma and FWC. We will be spending a few days around the Denver area and more. Any suggestions on boondocking/ camping? Truck is currently stock other than air bags, sliders, LED lighting, Camper ....

Photo in Maine from our last trip.

We leave PA this Sunday. Should be in CO, Tuesday or Wednesday depends if we stop and sight see any other places before.

Kind of a last min add to our trip. This is our first time to CO.

    We have listed:
    Denver area
    Mt. Sneffles area
    Sand dune nation park
    Rocky Mountain nation park

Yeah, figured they look pretty simple. Not too worried about the awd/4wd... or i think it'd be less of a deal breaker than i was originally thinking.

Also liked e46 rwd wagons, accord wagons and maybe even prius. But anything would get decent tires (maybe not full a/t) but i know regular street tires probably wouldn't stands up to use they'd see.

I liked the idea of being the first one to roll into a campsite with a c4 corvette with rtt... But, roof looks a little small for securing an rtt. Just want better mpg and try to keep some mileage off the tundra for long trips since I'm already at 19k. I would go with an older Silverado to also have a beater truck but less mpg than a wagon... But the resale value on most Silverados seems to be going upwards.

Why not be the 1st one to roll up in a caddy on gold dees and a RTT?

I've thought about older stuff.. There's a sweet old huge wagon thing, but that defeats the mpg wants.

And the other wagons i like seem pretty damn rare. There's a nice 04 e46 wagon, but it's awd and is auto. If it were manual, I'd think about it.

    'RMNP closed for season.'

@John taco is your list just a list or is that the order? Because depending on your route and time spent, you're a little inefficient there. RMNP is about an hour NW of Denver, while the Dunes is a few hours south and Telluride a few hours west of either Denver or the Dunes, depending on route or if you're making a loop. You can get in to either side of RMNP, but there is more to do on the east side and you cannot cross over during the winter - you have to go a long distance around, either via I70 or CO 14, to get to whichever opposite side. Depending on how much time you want to spend (and what you wanted to stop at on the way), I might suggest either coming out 80 instead of 70 or taking 70 to Denver, then hitting RMNP first, then through Denver to Telluride, then 160 to the Dunes, back up to Denver on 25, and home on 70. Could also reverse the Dunes/Telluride loop. Be aware we've already had some storms in various mountain areas that have made a mess out of roads, and more are expected in the very near future. The Dunes should be open to at least the visitor center/dune access area, though the 4x4 road and Medano pass is probably closed at this point. As already stated though, a lot of stuff (trails, seasonal campgrounds) in the Telluride area is probably already closed due to snow and if you decide to hotel it rather than use the camper it will be ski season rates.

Thanks for your time and post.

Have no specific order, they are just some interested points of possible visit. What are the things I should look out for due to the weather and winter season?

Is hiking Mt Sneffels safe and manageable at this time? Honestly I would just enjoy driving on Yankee Boy Basin a little, cook and sight see is good enough for me. Would that even be possible with the weather currently?

Also thinking about Mesa Verde National Park any input on that park?

We have a month free to wonder the west so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We have some plans in Utah, Cali., Arizona, New Mexico....

    thanks

Alos, we do have some camp sites reserved and using allstays app. but would still like to ask fellow members, how is the boondocking situation? Anything suggestions and things to look out for? We would get to the locations late in the evening and mostly leave early, staying at a new place each night.

    thanks

Mesa verde is sweet, I think it’s open year round but I could be wrong.
