Why not have them pick up a set of take offs off from a new Tacoma or 4runner, then sell them when they get to you?

That I dont know, aside from the poor ice performance and loud highway song (which may have been because they wore poorly due to work out front end components ) of my KM2 I have been happy with how they hook up on the trails.

Turns out scs makes the F5 in 3.5" BS and 17x9 but they're 215 each lol.

Superwinch has a pretty big range. I just picked up a Talon, which is near their top end. I think they have one cheaper than shittybilt if you look.

 I guess my fingers wanted to type faster than my brain could process last night.

And I already did regear my diffs. 4.88s, single best mod I ever did as you use it all the time. Not quite an apples to apples comparison to the winches, as the motor that is driving that gearing could be vastly different, but I get your point.

Plus I doubt the added miles will knock much value off the tires

    2004 thingy
I have seen 6 winches fail mid pull in all my years of wheeling. One of those failures was my personal Warn winch. My failure was a result of me not following instructions by Warn. In my winches case the motor needed to be clocked/modified for feet forward mounting. Years of being clocked wrong allowed corrosion to build up in the winch motor until it was no longer able to conduct electricity.

I've now seen 3 Smittybilt's fail. The 1st was a scary failure, the free spool clutch would disengage mid pull when the line would slack and then catch again resulting in drum gears exploding. The warranty replacement for this winch did a similar thing and required a bungee cord to stay engaged. They wouldn't warranty a 2nd one for him. The second failure was the solenoids stuck on after a 15 second pull, we had to cut the power wire to get it to stop. Once the solenoids were replaced it worked normal again. The 3rd just quit mid pull, it was the newer style x series. I never found out the resolution to that one.

One Superwinch failed. It pulled for a little bit than the motor kept getting slower and slower until operation stopped. Turned out to be an electrical install issue that was resolved by replacing the solenoids and fixing the root electrical issue.

The Harbor Freight winch failure was in a similar fashion to mine and the Superwinch, no scary release, just no operation. The motor just quit without warning. The cool thing here was he just walked in and got another one with the no questions asked warranty. We couldn't take it apart to see why it failed because of the warranty. Walked in with a bad winch and walked out with a new one 15 minutes later.

So, I would buy a Harbor freight winch for my Truck for most of my wheeling adventures. Knowing how some of their other stuff performs I'm not 100% sure I would rely on it for a long trip wheeling alone where self rescue is the only option. If I'm only ever doing those types of trips with friends who are also winched I wouldn't have an issue using a Harbor freight winch. If my latest Warn ever fails beyond reasonable repair or I build the 94 up a little (or how about the Highlander) it will likely just get a Harbor Freight or Superwinch talon series, depends on who has the best coupon that day.

    Good info.

I was reading reviews on the Warn Zeon series and quickly decided against that. I always thought Warn had the best reputation, but we know how that goes....

Comeup was a contender, but ultimately I got a great deal on my Talon, so we'll see how it performs.
