What's up Colorado friends. Anyone pretty familiar with Pagosa Springs? I'll be honest, I don't care about the hot springs much but know that we are going for a day or so. I am headed there (the town) the first week or so of June, for wrestling camp at the High School. Everyone is camping at / near the school, so have that covered. Have to be with the group at the campgrounds in the evenings / night (we have female wrestlers, wife is the team mom so she's the female supervisor).

Really looking for info on where to find some big old trout pretty close to town. Seems like everyone is into fly fishing there, but I never have fly fished, have always either shore fished or done sea charters up in Alaska and California / Mexico. Was thinking that there has to be some local info, but if nothing pops up then I'll just go with the old powerboat and a spinning reel:D

    Thanks for any help.

Depends on your definition of "Big" trout. You can catch Trout right in town on the San Juan, if you want truly catch big trout you need to head an 1.5 hours South and fish the most famous trout water in the USA, the San Juan Tailwaters below the Navajo Dam (Don't fool around, Texas Hole access and fish the braids up from there). Biggest Problem around Pagosa is the lack of Public access, Colorado is not a high water to high water access State and trying can get you shot.

The sand is fun to play in, there have camping on the sand but it’s nothing great. For nicer wooded camping you will need to that the sand dunes road/trail. Cross the water and go up the hill. Eventually it’ll connect with other trails and you can find camping up there. But be warned there could be snow drifts in places.
