Way back in the day I was in my Bronco and my friend in his Scout II... got through a couple of the creek crossings then got to one that was raging. He went first (I'm no dummy) and immediately started getting swept downstream. Wide open throttle of the 390 motor eventually got him up the bank about 30' down the crossing. Almost took him over. Never seen anything like that.

Of course as soon as I dropped in I went full throttle with the 351 and I too got up the bank about 10' downstream from the crossing.

It was insane flow.

The road is currently open only to the first creek crossing, 4.5 miles from the western entrance of the road. Campsites in Medano Canyon are NOT currently accessible by vehicle. The road has had extensive damage from very high runoff.

You CAN call it "The Turnpike".
When it was built, it was a toll road until the tolls paid for it. Some politician accidentally kept that promise (I'm sure he was kicked out of the freemasons or illuminati or something for that).
They have since added toll lanes in an attempt to correct that mistake.
