I guess my take would be that you take the win of his audience that wouldn't know about TL are gaining the education and potentially supporting it through him with his taking a cut (unless he's showing he's making no profit and just at cost on sticker or whatever, if even that - his 'donation' should be costs if there are any), and maybe you 'verbally' support what he's doing, but you don't financially support him. Sure if a guy fucks up and then tries to make it right that's a good thing, but if other people pay his way out of it for him... And to smack his logo on there kinda rubs me the wrong way. If he didn't have a history and did that, fine. With the history it just seems like he's profiting (through recognition if not monetarily) off the situation and not just making up for it. If he'd done it without having his name on it, I'd have been fine with that too. I hope there's at least some tie in that informs people of the story of how he fucked up and learned himself, and it's not just people who don't know about it are thinking his support didn't come at a trigger or with a cost.

You could have lead with that. :p The demonstration of education and making amends presents a much better picture than... the pictures you posted by themselves (take that old adage). I'd have to be much more informed or closer to the situation to form any opinion on genuine - because unless you really know the guy it'd be hard to judge how much was damage control and protecting his brand vs what he personally thinks and believes or has changed. And it's even harder to separate out one's own personal opinions about the guy regardless of how genuine he's actually being. The fact that he's presenting the history as part of this definitely would improve my view of it and make me more open to revising and opinion of him, but I would agree with you that you can't just reverse an opinion or come back from something like that overnight. It will take a history and rebuilding to do that.

And I still say sticking his name on there costs him points. "Too soon" as it were.

It does make sense, but without that context in this case I think the images themselves also shape opinions... the other way. Particularly for people like myself who haven't followed it and only see the 'status update' through here.

I went to the car wash during this rain burst. I wanted to get all the Oregon/Idaho/Utah/Colorado mud off of the undercarriage from my trip. And the entire population of bugs I murdered in eastern Oregon.

Am I crazy or do the 1st gen NUMMI built Tacos have thicker sheet metal than the newer trucks? I don't worry about hail and haven't had damage yet. This is partially due to luck of missing that softball size hail last summer that smashed through windows and such out in Lafayette.

I don't know if it's a sheet metal thickness issue or support bracket issue but I was quite surprised at how much the hood flexes when the air drier at the car wash hits it. I'd never seen that much movement before.

Up until I bought the Tacoma I'd been a lifetime VW owner. Every one of them weathered hail storms that damaged cars around it. Subarus seems especially soft and prone to damage. After noticing the sheetmetal on the Tacoma seemed flimsy I started keeping a couple moving blankets in the back to throw over the hood and roof if it looked like hail was heading my way. I used to giggle at people freaking out about hail because I knew my VW would most likely be fine, now I find myself running around like chicken little when the sky starts falling.

Yeah, I feel bad for my housemate. He has push notification for ANY chance of hail and plans his life around jumping in his Subaru at any moment to speed over to the car wash to hide in a bay.

That's better than the asshats who like to stop under an overpass on the highway. I have vigilante fantasies of being behind one some day and pushing him out into the hail.
