    Chris,

I am not sure how to post a video up. By the time we realized that the crap was happening we were too late but I do have some video of it draining out of it, albeit w/o the GUSHERs that were happening all night long.

Gutter guards would NOT have helped. The sheer amt of rain and hail that happened to just around 9pm was overwhelming. During the "break" last afternoon/eve, we had our wetvac out and fans helping the neighbors. There was literally sooooo much precip it couldn't have helped. I like gutter guards but when that much precip happens that fast our neighborhood is screwed. I managed to get the county to come out and put in some asphalt curbing (after 4 years of battling) and it helped a bit for the erosion.

I digress but needless to say it was a royal PITA.

Thanks. I've told him that about inserts a couple of times. I'm doing my best to convince him, but time and budget... Will be at least another few weeks before you might hear anything from me.

You would need to upload the video to YouTube or the like. Not a big deal, I’m about to spend a few pennies on retaining walls, just wanted to see your design.

Gutter guards helped us, but we may have different size and design. Ours were more for the wet snow we can get.

If you need help with backfilling, I have one of these. Can be handy. 41F2F952-C19E-48E3-A1A4-2DD5C21BD2BF.jpg

I was talking about backfilling dirt into his rock retaining wall, sprinkle a little dirt, not pushing mounds of dirt into a ditch.

Why? That’s what our guys in the field use?

Some have compaction wheels for a skid or hoe

OK. As long as we agree that no quality compactive effort can be achieved by this method.

I could find you thousands of examples of why this is not an appropriate means of backfilling. I should clarify though, that yes, you can backfill with this but you cannot compact the soils that you are using to do so which is more important than you can imagine.

Absolutely. At one point I’m my life, I tore up roads, fixed whatever was broken in the ground, put new soil in, compacted with remote compactor, and then had a compaction test done.

Oh hell no. This is what you do. Maybe someone else can learn what not to do.

I’ve heard plenty of horror stories of open trench line, snow storm blows in, and it gets backfilled. I’ve only made the mistake of keeping a large ditch line open once during the winter. That really sucks with snow shovels.

See so this is the issue. The front of the house has an engineered rock wall that holds back the soil/rock that butts up against the porch and house. With all the hail/rain, it literally blew out all the "backfill" (not sure if it was backfilled but it sure as shit had to. So now....the LEVEL part on top is down an inch or two and some of the laid rocks are now bulging out. BIG ROCKS. So at SOME point in time I have to A. Fix the drainage off the roof for a 100 yr downpour/hail event. B. Shore up the boulders/granite C. Pray for a drought....(which I would never do).

Sorry to make light of this but our home really wasn't anything compared so some of my neighbors down the street or up the street for that matter
