    I have a j-stick transfer case shifter.

Isn't there the gray wire mod on 01-04s to get 2-lo?

I don't winter wheel because I shovel enough snow at home and blasting through washboard dirt roads sounds like it's got "ditch" written all over it. Plus I don't blast anything in a vehicle. I drive like a grandmother.

Scangauge can read auto trans temps.
Ultragauge can't unless you get the MX model and do some configuring (someone correct me if I'm wrong)
Torx and other apps work off bluetooth and can be displayed on your phone. Androids have a lot more available apps than the iphone.

Gray wire mod is to enable the rear e-Locker anytime on the 4x4, like the Prerunner.

Blue plug is the 2-low on the 2-4 select transfer case 01-04's. You're lucky and just easily twin-stick it.

who's cooling kit did you install and how much extra fluid added? looked pretty simple to install and no doubt a good insurance measure. Pinned tstat all the time? No reason not to ?

Interesting, doesn't look that difficult to do either.

Here's the link that sent me down that road...
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/transmission-coolers.526283/

I'd imagine there's a lot of crossover between 2nd and 3rd gens. Install was really easy and cost was minimal.

It's a good time to also change out the fluid. Here's a good link about that process.

Disregard. We've located our friend. Troopers took him to a hospital. Still don't know his real condition, but at least he's somewhere safe

thanks for the information. I was planning to do the drain and fill (dealer did the top-off of 3/4 qt when it came low from factory) method too and compensate for additional volume of cooler by pre-install method of fill/drain/measure. ?? Or may see if @thefatkid has any free time to do because I can see a potential trans fluid mess in my future!

If I had the proper tools that would be my choice every time. Nothing better than knowing it is done right the first time.

I'm pretty sure you have the proper tools. Did you check out the link I posted?

I clicked on the link and it took me to a page other than the post - actually both did the same. It was a gen 2 page title "quick navigation menu." not to say gen 3 would not be the same. So I just went on with my day cussing at technology!
