So I just tuned my cb antenna and the best I could get was 1.8 on channel 1 and 40. Would running a ground wire from the antenna mount to the frame help this?
Current mount. I sanded the pillar to bare metal before installing the mount. 96B233DA-12C3-41F5-AA82-F745479B7D4F.jpg

Possibly, but is there bear metal between that point and the frame?

Also you really don’t have a ground plane in that location

I jumpered the mount to the neg terminal of the battery and it dropped below 1.5. I think I’ll run a wire from the mount straight to the frame.

Should I be looking at mounting it somewhere else?

I’d leave it for now, and see how it does.
Cb is finicky in the way that it needs the ground plane to send the signal in that direction.

Adding a grounding wire will help a little. As he said, since the bed is plastic there isn't much of a ground plane back there even with it wired to the frame. And for what it's worth, when I was setting mine up I tried both stranded copper wire as well as a purpose braided ground strap and noticed no difference between the two. Mine is mounted center front rail of the bed with the idea that the cab roof will serve as ground plane. But I also have a 4' top loaded antenna so it sticks well above the cab. If you're using a shorter two or even three foot, it may not make a difference. You could always try it in that spot and see if it's any better, but even at 1.8 you're in the ok if not great range. Particularly for trail use. Not a whole lot of other options - pretty much front bumper or hood channel, unless you do a mag mount in the center of the roof or get an NGP antenna (something I have thought about trying numerous times but not gotten to the point it was worth messing with).

I’ll add a ground wire and roll with it.

I was in a similar situation wanting to replace my lower control arms. For that price you can buy Total Chaos standard length. They are very solid. I'll even help you put them on. It's super easy.

that was a fun day... need to get my armor around the tcase extended so i can get back on that trail! having the crawler will be great on that trail

there are many spots along the trail that can give rigs problem. shit changes every year. the creek changes every year. some obstacles will get cut out more. if it's wet out at all, a lot of the obstacles leading up to the creek will get sketchy. i still haven't made it across the creek. the options when i went would have laid my bedside into a rock..

weekends get busy up there, so expect traffic on the trails.. unless your a built crawler, you will be the slower group so if crawlers are behind you, expect to find a spot to pull over and let them pass. the creek will get backed up and can sometimes take a couple hours just to get through if there's traffic.

Mine had the same issue when I got my alignment done. They were able to align it properly but said the bushings are seized in both LCAs, mine is a 2015 with about 45,000 miles, odd to have this problem already.
Did you decide what you are going to do yet?
