If you think about it, they didn't do all that good. Can't retire on 100K. Should be enough for some to buy a home, maybe pay one off, then look for another job.

you might be able to read it on your phone. I get locked out on the laptop, but the android browser allows it to be read.

True, but I wouldn’t bat an eye at $100K. Like you said, it’s beneficial in other ways. It could give an employee a head start in pursuing other options if they chose to.

If my company ever sold out all we’d be given was a kick out the door and a “thanks for all your hard work”. If that happens I’ll be down at Cheeba Hut hitting you up for spare change and sandwich scraps.

Just a heads up, you can get past the newspaper pay walls by going into incognito mode and then copy paste the link. If you use chrome.

Something everyone seems to be missing about those NB payouts if the deal goes through... As I understand it that 100k or whatever is retirement money, basically 401k contributions or stock/share value increases. The only way anyone sees any immediate money is cashing out and paying the stupid high penalty tax rate for early withdrawal on retirement funds. There isn't going to be any paying off things and looking for another job or something.

Also, while they say nobody will be losing jobs, so do most buyout/mergers. Then it actually happens and things change. Not to say that they will in this case, but there's been more than a few instances where it has. In fact there's a perfect example just up the street if I recall. Early on when Fort Collins Brewery was going to sell to Red Truck it was going to be the same thing - keep the product lines and employees. And then it didn't happen. Another company I worked for at one point also went through an acquisition where they told us everything was staying the same. And it did. For about six months. After that policy started changing, higher level people started leaving or being let go, and they started doing the first layoffs the (acquired) company had ever done.

If a company I worked for for only 5 years made a $100k contribution to my retirement I don’t think I’d be too upset even if they fired me. I know everyone’s circumstances are different, but for most it shouldn’t be too difficult to find a new job right now. Maybe I’m just naive :notsure:

Agreed. Like I posted earlier, I can guarantee, I wouldn’t get paid out like that from a buyout. Granted we’re not employee owned, but I have been with my company 18 years and I know what would happen. My ass would be one of the first to go due to my salary and benefits package. Again, retirement payout or not, it’s more than enough to help out. Whether now, or down the road.
