I don't know anything for a fact about this situation, but the way I read it, it could well be that no one is giving anybody anything.
They were employee owned so it could be that they're being cashed out and calling that a "payment". Taxes would then depend on how the shares were purchased. If they were purchased with post tax dollars than anything above their cost basis would be taxed. If they were purchased pre-tax or given untaxed as compensation, then the entire amount could be taxable.
They might be able to roll the funds in to an IRA and defer taxes that way, but it doesn't sound like they're profiting beyond what they would anyway if the company weren't sold.

 

My Friday face is the face of someone who did a 16 hour overnight shift, slept 3 hours, then is back at work for another 8 hour shift

That's what caffeine is for! I'm going to have a very nice pay check the next 2 weeks from all the overtime, so worth it IMO

 

Oh yeah. Not excited to see how many tax brackets I get bumped up for 20 hours OT in 1 week. Last time I worked 12 hours OT in 1 week, my taxes went up by almost $200 for that pay check.

 

Can get some of that back with tax returns thought right?

 

I’ve found 10 hrs a week OT is the sweet spot for me, anything more and Uncle Sam sucks up every extra penny they can..

Yeah. I might do that this weekend. Next week I'm working both "holiday days" for Thanksgiving. Triple pay for 16 hours. I'll make more those 2 days than I do a typical weeks pay without OT

Calculator meh I just worked a lot of OT received my payout and worked backwards

 

All the salary folks here have OT turned into PTO. A lot better trade value wise IMO

 

We have a lot of people that have so much PTO they don’t or can’t even use,because they’re to busy working.
