I am surprised at the lack of crime right now. I wonder if the criminals are afraid of getting the corona.

 

I dont recall there being any mention of traveling across state lines in the constitution. But, I guess I havent read it in a while.

On another sand note, AEG Presents (the group that largely puts on all of Red Rocks shows, has announced that all concerts are cancelled until at least August.

 

Article 4, Section 2, Clause 1.
It's implicit rather than direct.

 

Article 4, Section 2:
The Citizens of each State shall be entitled to all Privileges and Immunities of Citizens in the several States. A Person charged in any State with Treason, Felony, or other Crime, who shall flee from Justice, and be found in another State, shall on demand of the executive Authority of the State from which he fled, be delivered up, to be removed to the State having Jurisdiction of the Crime.

Not sure what that has to do with recreational travel.....

 

That being said, I talked to Noah last night in Moab and he said there are still people with CO plates riding around on the trails and streets.

Not surprised about that. There will always be people thinking only about themselves, especially in times like this.

Devils advocate - could be seasonal workers that live in Moab and recreating there since they are a (part time) resident. Also known in Colorado as a native.

 

Laws should not be subjective. And Im only playing devils advocate here. I dont like it either. I just hear people yelling shit all the time right now about the constitution and how many of us know enough about the thing to intelligently have a conversation about it that is based on facts and not jaded opinions.

Everything about right now just sucks ass hole.

I'm not going to pretend to be a constitutional scholar or lawyer or anything like that.
I do know that everything about the constitution was designed to place limits on governmental power.
Every time there's a crisis, whether it's real or imagined, the government uses it to increase it's power. Far too often, "temporary" powers, restrictions, etc. become permanent. Government overreach and expansion is a very real thing. We are the frogs sitting in the pot of water that is slowly being brought to a boil.

We're not supposed to talk politics on here, but I'm not certain if that means any political discussion or partisan discussions. I don't give a damn about the latter as it makes no difference to me whether the criminal has a D or an R in front of their name.

 

look up the Dormant Commerce Clause. that would pertain to interstate travel. its not specific but its what people use to say you can not limit travel between the states

 

I dont disagree with you. But I think we also take for granted a lot of things as being "rights" and not "privileges". I am quite certain that interstate travel is not in the Bill of Rights. Again, just playing devils advocate. I hate it, but I get it.

 

Utah can limit who comes into its state. It cannot limit people passing through its state to another destination.

 

Thats the catch, they were given the right to regulate their own municipalities/states by Congress, I believe. I dont sit and stare at the news right now, or ever, but I know that states were given the directive to address this time as they see fit to keep their communities safe. That is what Utah is doing.

Again, I hate it, but I get it.

 

And I dont consider this politics. Its current affairs.

 

Yeah, in our current situation where individuals are prioritizing their individual liberties over the safety and well-being of others (less wealthy, under/un-insured, labeled as essential and being excessively exposed)... the states and municipalities have to take over to protect everyone.

Serious question: Is there anything in the Constitution or Bill of Rights that says that individuals have the right to inflict pain and suffering on others (outside the death penalty, war, et al)?

Stopping now before I take a turn into politics.

 

Ive always heard that I have to right to punch anyone I want in the nose, but that right stops about 1/2" before my fist gets to their nose.

There are so many damn laws that have been written in the last 200+ years that you can find an equal and opposite law to argue with any law in existence.

 

That line of thought can be, and is, taken to an extreme.
We have people who honestly believe now that you are harming their safety and well being by hurting their feelings or offending them.

I heard a story (no idea of its validity) of someone trying to choke to death a person who wasn't wearing a mask. The choker felt that the person without a mask was endangering him. It's insanity. Fear and panic brings out the worst in some people. Thankfully, it brings out the best in others.
