such a shame. The .gov website kept every cent collected instead of it going to the park. annual pass holders had months of use stolen from them without recourse. the general attitude i experienced from the rangers was shocking this year. not a welcome to rocky at either the east or the west entrance just a show me the reservation or turn around, stopped in grand lake for lunch then came back home just this last friday. my pass expires at the end of the month and neither ranger at either gate mentioned it or offered to renew it again. It was tough to get a reservation on days you got done early to be able to use it like a nice get away. people made reservations for the earliest slot possible as that allowed entry at any point during the day. this led to evenings always having availability but the rest of the day booked up as soon as they became available. I could go on but I digress.

    There's a lot to unpack there…
    1. The $80/85 for the America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass doesn't give a whole lot to their budget to actually help with their constant budget cuts among historic visitation, trashing, usage, impacts, et al. Also, you could still use the other federal lands that this pass covers - just not the established facilities that were closed, like campgrounds or visitor centers.

    2. As for the "stolen time", well... we could go into politics with how it is stolen land and so on, but more importantly, it's a minor part of the minimal cost mentioned in #1 above. We could also talk about how poor people often can't afford to go to National Parks because of entrance fees, can't game the reservation system, et al.

    3. These rangers have already been overworked and now I bet people that didn't know, tried to enter early, et al were ANGRY with them... With traffic lines stretching for MILES before the ranger station, I'm not surprised they would be short with people.

    4. As for the flaw in the reservation system where people would just pay for the first available and enter anytime during the day, that sounds like they need to change the rules to make it an strict entrance window rather than a suggestion to enter within 2 hours of the time.
Please arrive as close to your 2 hour time slot as possible, starting at the time indicated on the ticket. You may not enter the park prior to your reservation. Once entered, visitors can stay the entire duration of the day and may re-enter at any time.

should have honored their side of the agreement as they expected all of us to do.
kinda weak after arguing the above, contradictory and all.
boo fucking hoo no tears lost for the rangers, everyone has had a shit year.
good riddance to a failed system. changing the rules to begin with was bs

Well if it makes anyone feel better about all the Fires in Western USA, at least we are not the only country battling forest fires.

Maybe it's time for a little friendly competition...:burp:
who can make the apparatus of their choice, to fire one of the following.
Tennis ball, potato, or golf ball. Let's throw a pumpkin chucker in there just cause of the season.

Voting will be determined by likes alone. Distance counts, as well as building creativity. It can be as complex or as simple as you want. Blowing holes in the garage wall is an automatic win.

    rules are,
    don't burn anything down.
don't cause property damage that may result in litigation.
try not to get hurt. have a friend try it for the for the first time. Safety first.

So if "Friend" tries it for first time and doesn't live, is that OK? :D

    Yep. Have both.

Ya know I didnt want to leave these golf balls out by the dumpster because I was afraid of what some kids might do with them.

I'm glad I'm putting them into the hands of responsible adults.
