China Wall Trail April 16 2011

Started off on the side trails, decided to head up our camp spot we go to every summer and got stopped due to a big tree blocking the trail! Decided to break it and move it to the side so we can continue. It took a few good Tugs and finally snapped the tip of the tree enough to get through!e86a14c3_b88620a1e226e359df14c5cf265e01bbb6ef9286.jpg

    Thats what it was blocking..

Then we headed over to China Wall Trail!

I actually got high centered in the above pic trying to go up this. But after throwing some rocks under the tires I was able to get out!

Here was a little rock garden witch I got up just for a pose.

I first tried it with out the locker with no success, I would just slide. Once it threw the lockers on it went up no problem. I actually did it like 4 times lol. My front bumper did scrape but that was it.

I made it though all obstacles but 1 due to not enough clearance! I recommend at least 2.5" of lift. I have 3 and did some scraping. The only damage I got was scraped on the skid plate and scratched under both side of my bumper on china wall!

Only got one pic because I was too lazy to charge the camera.

But I know a bunch of pic were taken by the group I will provide a link once they have them up. It was suppose to be a simple trail but with the added snow and mudd was more challenging then we thought. And it was snowing most of the day. Had a 2wd Tundra with us as well that made it interesting. And some guy in a Cherokee with bald tires had to pass us only to later on be stuck in the snow blocking us from continuing on.

Great day but a long day and the Duratrac were bad ass on all the elements I threw at them. Love these tires!

    A few bolts are different.
Made it out alive, both arms intact.

My front springs are trashed. Having so much pre load on the springs to get proper lift with all the weight of the bumper, winch and skids has taken its toll on them. MY front sits about an inch lower now after the suspension workout in Moab. Need new heavier springs stat.

So here is a Q guys. This weekend as I was for wheeling i noticed that in certain situations not all 4 tires would spin? But sometimes it did? I was high centered with all tires off the ground and my driver side front had grip on a rock but it wasnt moving? After trying 4 hi and 4 lo lockers on and off it finally caught and got enough traction on that tire to get me outta the situation. I spent this whole trip messing with 4 hi and 4 lo and differnt gears to figure out what combo works best in certain situations. All and all im am very happy with how capable this truck is. It did better than my old jeep in lots of situations and the locker does wonders in rock crawling. just trying to figure out the whole all 4 wheels moving situation.

because the front diff is open, the power goes to the wheel with the least resistance. So when a wheel in front looses traction, all the power goes to that wheel. In the rear axle the locker makes it so both wheels spin at the same rate no matter what. So even when cornering they will spin at the same speed (hence the reason you're not supposed to use a locker on pavement).

as far has 4 hi and lo, when you're on a trail it's all about torque. Thats why crawlers have such low gears. If you're going up a steep rock face, it's best to put in 4 lo and shift down to 1st or 2nd gear. This essentially gives you the most force behind your pedal so that you can have higher rpms but slower spinning wheels. This gives you the best traction because it's a slow steady force
