I just had this convo the other day with my wife, as one of the questions she asked her class during a lesson was "What does the word 'native' mean to you?". Only one student made reference to Native Americans. The rest all said Colorado.

Being from the Dakotas, the word has a different meaning in my upbringing than how it's tossed around here.

I was born somewhere else but have been here since before I can remember. Growing up I never thought I’d leave Colorado. More and more I want to move back to the western slope, but it’s probably only a decade away from the west being like the front range. Guess it’s time to find somewhere else
