    Thanks man.

They destroyed the arm on my rockymounts roof rack. Looks like the stood on the side of the car and used all their body weight to bend it and bypass the lock. It was from the jobsite parking lot on the corner of Denargo and Wewatta.

That's super helpful. Also, the TIME pedals are easy to spot to super bike nerds like me.

    FOR SALE:

4 heavy duty chain locks from the days where I had a much larger bike collection locked in a low-security garage that often had the door left open.

For sure. My point was... well really, my point was mostly to troll... but also that people in cities just don't care if it's not their property being messed with.

But if you get a beefy chain lock, you can also wear it as a belt!

I've seen commuters leave locks like that locked to the racks outside their offices so they don't have to carry them back and forth. Not a bad arrangement.

Not a bad arrangement other than letting the lock sit there for someone to practice picking until you re-attach it to your expensive bike... I've only had one bike stolen and since then my anti-theft strategies have been working quite well... and my "commuter"/"townie" bike cost more than a supercharger.

I'd be more worried about the lock-picker who has a practice lock at home... but either possibility seemed remote enough that I wasn't concerned with it. There's not much you can do about a skilled lock-picker anyway.

Those particular locks are also extraordinarily difficult to pick. I'm assuming you know this channel... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h60e5U88-OI

My anti-theft strategy when I was in downtown Chicago consisted of a good u-lock with a secondary cable lock for the wheels, and locking up next to other more desirable or easier-to-steal bikes whenever possible. I also rode a refurbished '80s Schwinn that I was willing to replace (but never had to, thankfully). I love '80s Schwinns as commuters--the higher-end ones look nearly identical to the dime-a-dozen cheap ones, so you can get a really nice but inconspicuous bike for only a few $100s if you know what to look for. Even the cheap ones are better than a lot of new commuter-grade bikes.

I was never comfortable locking up a nice bike. I had a Surly Cross-Check for a while, and even that felt too nice to lock up.

I'm curious about your bike now. Short of a WorkCycles or a Speedvagen GTFO, I can't think of any "commuter" bikes that go for supercharger money. Unless it's a nice road or mountain bike that you're just using as a commuter?

Sometimes the locks don't matter anyway. There were street signs in Chicago that weren't properly fastened to the ground. You could just lift the pole out of the base. Had watch out for those when locking up...

It's a titanium cyclocross bike made in Steamboat with a USA made carbon fork. I got over the fear of locking nice bikes when I got an insurance check for the first one that was stolen (cut lock - inside a Walgreens for 6 minutes).

Yeah, combining two different brand locks and styles increases the chance that someone picking/cutting a lock may not get away with the bike.

Yep, one of my first steps in locking is to shake the s*#t out of what I'm locking to - verifying that it is attached to the ground.

Nice. I think I know who you're talking about. I've yet to experience a titanium bike. Maybe someday... but I am a steel frame nerd.

I had spindle gussets installed on my Tacoma and had to add wheel spacers in the front for the stock TRD OR wheels to clear the spindles. Thinking of going to either a 17” wheel or a 16” with less offset to clear the spindles. Is there a consensus on this? The idea would be to get rid of the wheel spacers.

Just pondering the options while waiting in the car to get called in for jury duty in Aurora.

There was a thread on reddit.com/r/COBike that mentioned a pile of (assumed stolen) bikes near a homeless camp around 29th and Arkins. Not sure if that's close to where you were, but might be a place to look.

Yup, I work a couple streets over and that's where it got stolen from. Drove through the camp slow a couple times yesterday and got chased out.

Well with videos like this out there, best to not let it out of your sight if possible. For about $200, this "tool" will take out the best locks in seconds and steal your chain too.
