Internet forums like TacomaWorld are also social media platforms

 

I thought it was very interesting and crazy how far it went given how many bike thefts have been happening

 

Message boards and forums are online communication sure but it is not social media. They evolved from email lists where enthusiasts would share something they were working on in the form of a monthly blast. Tips and tricks. DIY & at home tinkerers. I remember getting so many emails full of Sentra mods that had nothing to do with my 240sx, but that was one of the best Nissan newsgroups. Then they linked us to a bulletin board and the emails ended.

Social media is not the same thing, just as a monkey is not a human. There no preservation or history of information, with poor search functions for what is preserved. When Photobucket pulled the plug on image hosting, forums almost died. This one hosts images and I believe that is why it has survived unlike some others who didn't foot that bill.

havent had any social media outside of reddit or TW or Subaru legacy forums for almost ten years. been debating on hoping back on the instagram though.
