Thanks, I agree, 550 from i70 is definitely not the way to go.

I would potentially be taking 550 from i25 and head north.

If I do i70 I’ll swing by Moab, a lot less elevation ascents once past Vail.
EDIT: i70 looks very wet and slushy still so I think I need to head south.

    I’ll check out the 285 elevations…

Yes. Also up I 70 to Leadville exit (just before Copper MTn) then south. 285 is okay but lots of two-way traffic. Six of one and half dozen of another.

For those in Northern Colorado, if you get a letter from the Health District for a Community Health Survey, be sure and open it. It has a $2 bill in it. :bananadance:

I was just at the four corners yesterday and drove back to Colorado Springs via US160 and I25. My entire truck weighs 1000lbs less than just your trailer, I don't tow, and I was driving the opposite direction but I can say...

Wolf Creek pass was beautiful. The pavement was dry and in great condition and traffic was all but nonexistent. Lots off pull-off locations along the way if you or the truck need a rest.

La Veta pass was equally dry and traffic-free for me. Pavement isn't as nice as Wolf Creek. Seemed pretty uninteresting as far as passes go.

I25 from Pueblo to Walsenburg is surprisingly unpleasant to drive. It winds for no apparent reason through Pueblo and the pavement is in rough shape. My wee little 1st gen was bouncing all over at 70-75mph and I didn't feel comfortable going faster. Might not be as much of an issue in a heavier truck.

Amen. Coming down from Wolf Creek I got stuck behind a truck (just a vanilla Ram, not loaded or towing anything) that would do 5-10 under through all the windy bits and then accelerate to 5-10 over any time the road opened up enough to consider passing. Dunno if they were sightseeing or just uncomfortable in the bends, but it was infuriating after seeing almost no traffic for the last 10 miles.

Thanks for your input. Ive been looking at the cameras the past few days and i70 is too wet and risky right now and your experience of 160 coincides with what I've been seeing.

I typically keep it around 60 on the hwys and yes the drive from COS to Walsenburg is going to be just as windy on the way down as it was on the way up here.

Thanks again for your recon :)

P.S with cars behind and the opportunity arrises I pull off, slow down when passing lanes appear and move to the right so people have good vision for overtaking...

    Live Aloha...

Special shout out to Stapp Interstate Toyota for tightening my oil cap assembly with what I can only imagine was an impact gun or Hulk Hogan. It was a real pleasure taking it off with a breaker bar and socket, only to crack one of the tabs.

last time I ever use a dealer. Wish I could buy direct and avoid them altogether.

Just order from Toyota Parts Overstock (Lakeland Toyota) or McGeorge Toyota. They typically have more parts in stock than any other distributor/dealer and have the best pricing that I can find for OEM parts

My favorite part is when I ask the dealer if they'll match the online price quotes and they get bent out of shape. I give them the chance to make SOME money with little work since I roll in with a list of part numbers that they don't even have to look up or anything. Oh well.

I ordered a bunch of stuff from McGeorge last time I wanted OEM parts. They had the best prices and worked quick to remedy an issue. I'll keep them in mind

They're awful. Thanks for the recommendation @literallynothing, I'm going to Stapp now and putting up a fuss. Hopefully to get the part for free, otherwise I'll order from one of those vendors and just put this back on.

Had to put my foot on the drivers side tire to get enough leverage..haha
