What kind of riding are you looking at doing? I’d start there. Mellow flow trails, all day epics, chunk and steep, bike parks? All of the above? Make sure you’re looking at the right bikes for what you want to do.

My advice, and I’m no expert, make sure the frame is modern geo and upgradeable (i.e. Boost spacing). Get one with a fork that is upgradeable. If it’s not, you’ll be shelling out for a new fork when you’ve reached the limits of your old one. Stay, at minimum, SRAM NX drivetrain if equipped with SRAM. Shimano Deore is a good bang for your buck entry level drivetrain. Easy and cheap to upgrade shifters and derailleurs over time for quicker engagements. Four piston brakes minimum. Easy and cheap to gain more stopping power buy upsizing rotors and changing brake pads. If you’re debating between the $2500 option and the $3500 option of the same bike, just bite the bullet and eat ramen for a couple of months. Not only will you be happier, it will be easier to sell if you decide the sport isn’t for you. Again, just my opinion, YMMV.

disagree with this part, but agree with the others. Alec is smaller than I and I can get away with 2-piston calipers on my “enduro” bike. While I had upgraded my XC full suspension to 4-piston up front, that isn’t absolutely necessary. Brakes are cheap to upgrade later, so I’d focus on good frame and fork but mostly the modern geometry and correct application for what the rider will be riding.

Just like I wouldn’t be riding a XC race geometry bike in Moab on the double blacks (anymore), someone shouldn’t necessarily be riding a enduro-bro, slacked out bike on gravel canal trails.

@bot102 there is great value in getting a relaxed geometry hardtail like a Specialized Fuse and learning good technique before going full squish.

I even went from full suspension to a full rigid (no suspension) back in the day before going to a hardtail for 5+ years, then finally back on full suspension.

For some, not all, full suspension is a hindrance in preventing leaving good technique and stalls your progression.

Again, why I said just my opinion. I’m 225 lbs and ride steep, chunky trails and park. If given the choice between 2 piston and 4 piston I’m going more power all day. The two most important things to me on a bike are brakes and tires.

And why do you constantly refer to enduro riders as bros? I don’t knock people for riding terrain or styles that I don’t enjoy. I’m anything but a bro, but enjoy enduro/DH riding and absolutely loathe everything else. I want to take you seriously, as you seem like and decent dude, but your constant arrogance on pretty much everything really is off-putting. Too each their own, my man.

2 pot brakes are enough for the average trail rider. 4 pots are enough for average trail/all mountain/ Enduro rider. I have 2 pots on my 21 specialized stumpjumper and they work okay. I've done almost every trail on the front range, I've rode crested Butte, monarch crest, fruita and many more all on cheap 2 pot brakes.
But, over the past couple years owning the bike, I've upgraded everything but the frame, headset and bb. Just ordered new Shimano XT 4 pot brakes last night. All I'm saying is 2 piston brakes will get you by until you're ready to upgrade.

Girard got smoked last night.. Sheesh.. Broken sternum.
But of course Kadri gets the "his reputation" argument. Maybe Bennington shouldn't swing his stick around at people :notsure:

Don't even get me started. National bias against the AVs is unreal. Sam was getting ambulanced to the hospital and all they could talk about was the Kadri/Binny play during intermission. But the play on Sam was a "hockey play"

Also very funny that during the post game interview with Kadri, bitch boy binny threw a water bottle at him

Yeah Barbeshev left his feet on the hit.. Thought that was dang near an auto penalty.
I was watching the interview when he threw it ha, the only TNT commentator defending Kadri was Bissonnette. Pretty sure he feels the way we all do about Binny.

Yeah I'm 5'8 165lbs. I'm definitely not up to doing any double blacks or anything yet. Hall Ranch is the hardest I've done, think that is just a Black level. I didn't do the rock garden at the bottom though, started at the upper trailhead. Did that on a rental Giant Anthem 2 29er a few years back.

More so just want a good entry level bike, that won't hinder me from trying to do harder stuff, but will also last me a good 3-5 years as I advance in skill level. Don't think I'll be doing any multi day trips just yet.

Exactly, no problem with the hit if he doesnt jump into the the head of Sammy. Unfortunately we lose Sam for the rest of this post season and Binny boy reclaims the net tomorrow.

Edit now binnington is out for the series and Naz is getting death threats.....

The term enduro bro wasn’t meant to be derogatory, but I can see how that’d be taken by y’all who don’t know me in person, so I’ll try and remember to not use it here.

New battery seems to be the ticket for my long term energy needs.
I believe it's double the capacity in amp hours over the group 24 deep cycle offerings.
Ran a 6-10 amp load on it for 6 hours Saturday. Was still at 12.1 volts, so around 50% discharge. Normal use
will be around 3 amps, intermittently.
