Yes, he now has a very expo build 4runner. I honestly traded down to get into something I would enjoy more. Eventual plans of a low solid axle build. That is likely a 2-year plan, trying to stockpile parts rather that a huge single investment to get it done.

I was hit with a little setback about 6 months after the trade, an engine knock. My 2 current options are about 2-3k into an engine rebuild or a repower. Stock 3.4l has me wanting to perform a manual swap. Repower would have to stay Toyota and offer some sort of "Wow" factor. So I came across this option, whole vehicle that is rust compromised. It runs well, the brakes are compromised so I can't get a good feel for the transmission.

Ugh, yes. I would never put any money into the stock 3.4 with A340f again. It performs poorly here at altitude combined with the passes that with a light load and 32’s, I was lugging it in 3rd losing speed or near redlining in 2nd to stay around 50mph.

If I had another 1st gen, I’d buy one with a bad drivetrain and build it up properly with either an LS or some better Toyota engine/transmission combo naturally aspirated.

I almost dumped over $10k into my 1st gen with supercharger and more, but I decided it was better spent to get a 2nd gen with more airbags.

Nephew just called and said he rolled the taco on it's lid. He's ok, haven't seen the truck yet though. Teenage drivers, after riding with him a couple times, I figured it was just a matter of time. Happened on his way home from school in the snow. I'll post pics of the carnage when I see it. :(

Oh jeese, glad to hear he’s ok, that’s the important thing. Hope the truck is salvageable though.

anyone know what could be causing shifting in and out of first gear being very difficult? 2-6 are perfectly fine, its just first

Edit; 6speed 2016 off road with roughly 80k

How old is the transmission oil? Is the truck dead cold when you are shifting?

My wifes' Jeep TJ has a super stiff rubber shifter boot and when it is below 10*f, it doesn't want to move enough to get a clean-smooth 1st to 2nd shift!

not too cold, hes in Ashville NC , it seemed to have start after he got it serviced last time
he just got it serviced maybe 3 months ago which makes me think it was something other than fluid

Cab/doors are fucked, B piller is bent from the impact so cutting the top half off and welding a new top on is not an option. Front clip is fine/salvageable. Box has a dent, topper is cracked but still mounted solid and can be saved.
Engine started after i pulled the plugs and shot 3 quarts of oil out of the cylinders. Took 3 quarts to bring it back to full. Smoked like a cold diesel, has oil leaking from the tailpipe, pretty sure it's just what pooled in there while it sat upside down for a couple hours while the tow truck did it's thing.
Only one trouble code, mass air flow sensor needs cleaned, not surprised, but nothing else.

Looking for a complete cab and doors and I think it can be on the road again.

Frame is fine, drive train is fine, nothing else bent. Engine sounds just like the day I bought her 24 years ago.

He had his buddy with him, neither wearing belts, both walked away unscratched.

Might just remove the windshield and doors, kick the top of the cab back up for headroom and he can drive it in the meantime.

Honestly looks way better than I would have thought. Must have just been a flop and not a tumble. Topper looks fine, I would have thought that would have taken some more damage.
