Do a tank lift on the bike, it'll be an easy and cheap mod to kill some time and they look great.
Tank lift took about an hour, and it does look good. This prompted me to remove the fuel gauge sending unit and redo my little float bushing and tweak the float lever to try and get it to read better. After a half dozen attempts, I finally got it to register when down to the last gallon of gas and it still reads full when topped off. Final tighten down of the sending unit cover, and snapped off a screw. This prompted some rather creative swearing. Removed the whole mess, got the screw out and managed to drop the little fucker right in the tank. More swearing. Got the damn thing out with a magnet on a stick, those things are worth their weight in gold. During all this, I noticed that the reserve tube on the petcock is only good for about 1/4 gallon of gas, that's not a lot of reserve. Drained tank and added exactly one gallon of gas and used a small light to visually see where almost fucked is. Next time I remove the petcock, I'll add a half inch of tubing to the taller tube and see if that nets me closer to a reserve gallon of get me to a gas station.
    Tank lift=1 hour.
Fucking with shit that prolly should have been left alone=5 hours.
    Before

After. Actually leveled out the bottom of the tank and has a better look/flow with the seat now.
Plus the added air flow and easier to clean heads.

Was supposed to be a simple job to pull my new battery tray and paint the raw steel base plate and cages I just had welded in. I hit everything with the flap disk real quick to clean up some surface rust and had things pretty much ready for paint when...against my better judgment...I screwed on the wire wheel and decided to try to hit one of the welds in the engine bay a little better. Grinder ran, grabbed my front ABS wires and ripped all fucking 4 out from the bottom of the fuse panel.

    20230729_121505.jpg

30 minutes to pull apart the fusebox. Only grumbling and calling myself a dumbass at this point. Spend another 30 minutes searching the garage and the house, trying remember where the hell I put my heat shrink. Find heat shrink. Solder sensor wires. Assemble fuse box. Spend 20 minutes trying to get the 1 stupid screw in on the back to reinstall fusebox. Strings of profanities. Finally get fusebox installed. Realize fuse box isn't assembled correctly and cover wont fit unless it is removed and assembled correctly. More cursing. Airborne socket wrenches. Remove fusebox. Assemble fusebox correctly. Fight for another 15 minutes with that little shitbag screw on the back. Profanites galore. Get fusebox installed. Realized it took now almost 4 hours to get back to where i was before i decided put that stupid wire wheel in the engine bay. Threw some paint on it, and decided it was beer time.

Hopefully someone had a better day wrenching, or better yet was out enjoying themselves.

If anyone was curious, Spring Creek is still relentlessly brutal but fun. Nobody died but I'm pretty sure I broke a motor mount.

We did not. We came down from Cascade creek and skipped the wall since we're all on 33s and that thing is rowdy as hell.
