Interested in some wheeling that goes thru or goes to some ghost towns, old mining camps things like that. Wife mentioned it the other day and I will take any chance I can to take her wheeling. With Halloween coming up it could be fun. Any info is appreciated. Thank you.

This is what I was thinking. I love checking out the old mining sites. I'll throw out the obligatory "Don't enter any abandoned mine shafts/adits/tunnels."

If I had more free time, I'd do volunteer work for abandoned mines (both rescue and remediation). Wouldn't mind having my own mine property and a small mill to play with; maybe it'll be my retirement gig.

We went through several of these areas a couple of years ago near my in-laws place in West Fork Colorado. Totally, teetotaly Awesome ....... Would be an understatement :) We even saw a triple rainbow off one of the logging roads in a distant valley.

Thanks for the info I am gonna look into and plan a day trip. I have done 4-5 different trails since moving here...all near Woodland Park mostly...I have not seen anything yet...I guess I gotta get out into the mountains a little farther.

Just looked it up on Trail Damage. Looks like a sweet trail.....not something I would want to tackle alone, even with my winch.

Actually the big portion of the mine is at the beginning of the trail so you don't even have to actually wheel the entire trail. Just park at the entrance and walk a little ways. If you hike up the hills behind the mine there's a lot of stuff up there too.

Also Mosquito Pass has some good ones, and doable in your truck, and right near Wheeler Lake.

Theres some nice trails on your way out through the back of Georgetown up the hill just before you get leveled out on Squaw pass... Turn off on the right side, def worth checking out. Lot's of mining scructures up there as well.

I was down in your neck of the woods last weekend, playing near LaSalle Pass (basically dirt road most of the way):

My favorite trail in colorado is Holy Cross. There is a holy cross city at the top of the trail which is a old mining ghost town.

Probably not a good trail for a stock tacoma but I've done it in the past with a early bronco on 33's locked front and rear without any body damage. I think its too late in the season to run right now too since its probably getting snowed on as I type this.

Its defintely worth it to at least hike since its one of the most beautiful trails in the state and the wilderness area above the trail is awesome too.

Sadly the only place I went off road previously was Mt Herman Road. However, I had a FWD car. This time I have a Taco and Grand Cherokee.

I'll be making some trips and these look amazing!

Las Animas Forks at the intersection of Engineers and Cinnamon Passes in SW CO is very cool. Also on the Lake City side of Cinnamon Pass is the trail head for Wager Gulch Road, that leads to Carson, a small settlement at the bleeding edge of treeline. All the structures there are in good shape and still a lot of equipment lying around. Both could be done in a stock truck.

Wanted to try to bring some life back to this thread given the time of year. We're gonna head to Argentine pass to Santiago mine ghost town this weekend.

Here are some pics I pulled from the web. I'll post some trip pics come Monday. Looks like a pretty easy trail but should be a good time.
