So badass! I also have a cow elk tag in WY that goes the month of October. Hopefully I have time to do it all that month!

Got a new 5 pin site for my bow and been sighting that in/practicing. It'll be my first year bow hunting elk, well bow hunting at all actually. Need to also get my scope mounted on the rifle and sighted in. Problem is, the scope tube isn't long enough for the rings I have on my Savage Ultralight. I wanted to not have to put a rail on but might be my only option, however, having a hard time finding anyone carrying a rail with 8-40 screws. I think I might just take it to a gunsmith and have them possibly smith something up

Archery elk and bear tags ordered. Guess I should stop drinking beer for a bit and hit the treadmill :burp:. September is coming up quick.

Dudes, archery is right around the corner and I haven't even got my bow out yet. I'm WAY behind on my prep. I had planned on hunting a new unit this year and never even made it out to scout. Gonna have to rely on my old areas again this year.

Been watching YouTube hunts to get fired up while running the last couple of weeks. So help me god, if I get suckered into another 30min video of a bunch of jack wagons from out east filming a glorified Colorado hike w/o seeing as much as a single muley, let alone elk, I'm going to start reporting their videos for misleading/false information

Got lucky and pulled a 4th season bull tag. I'm a Colorado native but currently live in AZ, so this was my first year paying non-res fees.... holy shit what a kick in the dick that was.....hopefully it pans out for me...

Which is why all the out of staters are "getting lucky" with drawing cause it brings Colorado more money. Though they say it's a fair system, I'm skeptical. No offense to you at all, hopefully you can harvest a nice one!

Oh I completely agree with you. The fact that they charged me literally 10X what they charge a resident hunter.... seems suspect that there are a lot more non-resident tags awarded. Between the point creep and the cost of non-resident licensing... Colorado among other states, need a serious reform. It's very unfair to the locals.

resident elk tag- $56 bucks + $30 qualifying license
non-resident elk tag- $688 + $109 qualifying license + $9 app fee ..... yeah it's a racket for sure. You can't tell me its "random" or "fair" for the locals when non-residents pay a lot more. I get it, I signed up for the expense as a NR and it is what it is. But I do think it's BS that they don't seem to award resident tags at the same rate as NR. I talked to several of my buddies and I had one friend that pulled his tag out of 7 hunters.

Why not hunt AZ? Lots of great elk hunts state wide.

I put in for it but didn't get my draw, Arizona has very limited OTC elk tags. Most of it seems to be draw only, this was my first year down here and I was trying to figure out the permitting situation and how it all worked and just kind of missed the boat. There are some monster bulls down here for sure but the units they are in are a limited draw. The left over tags are not sold online, they are sold first come first serve in person at AZGFD offices so they go very quickly.

I'm skipping out on the early archery elk season, too hot. Going to head to my family's farm in KS. to shoot some dove. Hopefully the last 10 days of elk archery will be cooler with a little white stuff on the ground.
Best of luck to those headed out for early season. Maybe find water and have patience.

This year I am hunting duck, pheasant, Fox and rabbit. Next year I am going to apply for big game deer and elf rifle. Any pointers?
