Just preference points for me this year since I'll be out of the state the whole season.

All preference points for me this year, maybe I will pick something up in the leftover draw. My brother got a 2nd rifle antlered deer down south.

Got Unit 29 (Boulder area) for 3rd rifle antlered. Anyone ever hunted that unit?

Nice man. This is my first year. So don’t have any preferred areas yet. Best of luck to ya though.

Unit 41 for 1st rifle elk. Thinking I might go 411 instead though. Success rates look a bit better. Anyone have any experience here?

No Expereince with those units, but they look like they could be fun. The Grand Mesa area (the border between 41 and 411) looks like it could be fun.

The secondary draw list is up. Anyone know of any good elk "freezer meat" units? My main season will be focusing on mule deer with my brother, but I would still like to get out at some point and get a cow for the freezer.

Successful draw for Cow and Buck, I’ll pick up a OTC Bear tag as well for the season, will also grab a Archery tag for Elk once OTC opens up

I never have. I only hunt on the Western Slope. The onX Hunt app is very helpful if you're not already using it.

Drew 2 out of 2. Either-sex elk tag for 1st rifle and buck for 3rd rifle. I'm out of game meat, so hopefully i can get the freezer stocked. Good luck to everyone.

Congrats on getting set up for big game guys!
This year I am planning on more small game and water fowl. I really want to go duck hunting.

Next year I am planning on going big game for the first time (deer, with a Ruger American predator .308 rifle and nikon buckmaster II scope). If you guys do not mind I will probably be asking you guys a lot of questions to help myself prepare. Even some dumb questions that might sound obvious. Last year was my first year hunting so in general so I am still new to this.

I have a couple questions right now:

    1. What is the whole process of getting a big game license? Do you get to pick your GMU? How does it all work?

    2. I kill the deer, but how do you guys apply the tag? I hear conflicting things like "put it on the antlers", or "put it on the hide".

    3. So I killed the deer, I tagged the deer, I field dressed the deer...How do I process the meat? I do not have a the necessary facilities or tools at home to butcher the deer, so do you show up to a game process place with hide and antlers still intact? What is the whole process?

I just want to do this right, and also I will NEVER EVER ask you guys what exact spot you hunt in. It's not cool. I get it. Have you ever been flying fishing in Deckers? It sucks. There is always someone 30 yards from you.
I might ask you what general area of colorado you hunt in NW,SW,NE, SE), and I might ask some questions about some SWA's like is the terrain like, should I totally avoid it, stuff like that.

1: License draw happens between March 1st and April 7th (2020 dates) Apply for your spices (m/f) what season, and which GMU you want.

2: The carcass tag should be attached to the carcass (not to detached hides, horns or antlers carried separately)

3: I process myself, but previous to learning the ins and outs and having a place to do it I used a processor. Plenty of them out there, read the reviews some are better than others. Process is simple, drop off the animal, get a claim ticket, and wait.

Also a good reference for lots of questions. https://cpw.state.co.us/Documents/RulesRegs/Brochure/BigGame/biggame.pdf
