Do you guys know anything about hunting on State Wild Life areas: TomaHawk, Teter Michigan Creek, and James Mark Jones? These are all up hwy 285-ish

    Terrain? access? trashed? Crowded?

Looking to check out to do some small game (rabbit, fox), and maybe waterfowl up around those areas this season.

I might be going hunting alone a couple of times this year.
Any good GPS's you guys recommend? I just would mind having one.

I have a Garmin InReach, the wife bought it for me as a gift because she liked being able to get a hold of me in case of an emergency, or if I had to use the SOS feature for myself

I freaking love my InReach. Especially the messaging option. Just be prepared for those messages to take some time to get pushed to and pulled from the device if satellite coverage isn’t ideal.

Also, do any of you local gents have any suggestions for a starting point to get into bowhunting?

I’m 100% trying to get into hunting for the meat and don’t give a shit about mounts and stuff (not that there’s anything wrong with that!) I just like the idea of maximizing my chances of success outside of rifle hunts.

    Thanks in advance!

Get a cow tag and a bow and start real close to the cow.

Get fitted for a bow if you havent already. Practice shooting a LOT. Like at least once a week during off season until you are comfortable with the 40-50yard range (using field tips with the same grain as your broadheads)

Scout your zone in the summer and weeks leading up to the season. Early season bow you almost have to hunt as high as you can for elk.

Draw a bull and mule tag. We were always able to get OTC cow tags with no issue.

I was never good at it because our group never put in the time to scout as much as we should. It's a lot of work and really difficult. We did it because it was fun. Someone else on here is probably a pro.

These letters needed to be bigger...

    I shoot 25 arrows every evening @ 20 yards

If you ever want to shoot, I go to Archery In the Wild in Longmont.

That’s only 10 minutes from my house!

Thanks for the heads up, Marty. And when I pull the trigger on a bow, I’ll definitely take you up on going shooting.

But you don’t live in Boulder County like I do. How’s that for looking on the bright side?!
