x3 on the InReach. I love that thing. I pretty much always have mine with me when I’m in the mountains.

I bought a garmin inreach. I did all the register crap online, and then I went outside to set it up. It is stuck on “waiting for conformation”

Other than the gawdawful MicroUSB connector, my DeLorme InReach has been consistently awesome. I love being able to send messages to family and friends and have the location data automatically sent with it.

It finally worked this morning. It was pretty stupid. Something was jacked up on their end. For something that is $500 you would think it would be more intuitive and say what was wrong instead of basically saying: "I don't know what my fucking problem is. Go to inreach.garmin.com and figure it out yourself."

I want to say that Garmin’s servers shit the bed pretty bad or something the last week or so. I couldn’t get the sync to work last week before going camping.

How do I get this thing to get me where I want to go?
I set a waypoint to a place I want to go hunting at, but instead of showing/telling me a route and directions to get there, it just shows a straight line.

Ok, don’t take this the wrong way... but did you look at the manual at all?

yes I looked at the manual. I did stuff on the the inreach.garmin website. I synced the device. i downloaded the garmin earthmate app.

I want to able to set a destination, and have the device tell me: turn right here on this street, turn left on this highway, take a right on this trail in 200 feet. Drive 2 miles on this trail, get out and walk 20 yards.

I set a waypoint and all it does is show a straight line. How helpful is that. The instruction manual is not helpful at all. It's only 7 pages (english portion). It does not teach how to use any of the functionality of the device.

Is the InReach capable of route finding ala Google Maps? I’ve never used it that way, but I have created .kmz routes and stuff.

You can do that, but you need to create the route to destination. It will not route you automatically based on a set destination you want.

    1. Login to the Inreach portal.
    2. Use the map to create the Route, works similar to Gaia. You will need to create the route based on how you want to get there, turn by turn.
    3. Sync that particular route to your Inreach.
    4. Look up the route on your inreach, should be under the navigation menu.

Big game leftover draw kicked off this morning for those that are still looking to snag a tag. Quite a few returns were available this year (assuming due to COVID and the economy).

Thanks guys. Sorry being an A hole. I guess with my own ignorance I expected this thing to do more than it does. It terms of driving to a destination it's kind of worth less, but walking in the field it will be amazingly helpful.

It terms of driving I think I found a compromise. The In reach gives me specific LAT/LONG coordinates. I can plug those into my truck's GPS and that seems to work. so far...
