Hey everyone! I'm driving to Denver, Colorado from Texas on the third week of March. Itll be my first time going in my Taco and I was hoping to get some advice in terms of roads and weather conditions? I drive a stock 2020 TRD Offroad and I'm pretty nervous about the snow/ice. Any advice is wanted and will be extremely appreciated!!

Also does anyone have some off road trails a stock Taco and newbie offroad enthusiasts can do?

720-722-1204 connects you to Colorado 4x4 Rescue and Recovery who will recover you for free if you get yourself stuck badly on a trail. If you're within a couple hours of Denver or Colorado Springs, you have a good chance of them helping.

Colorado has a couple of enforcement codes during inclement weather: Code 15 (the first to be enacted, usually) and Code 16 (last resort before closing the highway). Can't say I've heard of Code 16 getting enacted in the very general Denver area; if the highways around here get that bad, they just shut 'em down. If your tires have at least 6/32" of tread depth then you're fine if Code 15 gets enacted.

Typical trick (which I don't do, but it works) is to throw weight into the bed to increase the rear tires traction. If my rear tires slip, then the conditions are probably good enough for 4wd. Reduce your speed, leave a larger gap between you and the vehicle ahead, and don't do anything suddenly or aggressively (like stabbing the brakes, whipping the steering wheel, mashing the gas pedal). Bags of sand are preferred as bed weight since they double as a traction adder if you're stuck and the tires are slipping; throw some of it down to get unstuck.

If you want to explore off pavement, stick to maintained dirt roads. They'll be plenty enjoyable to you with some snow on them. Tackling a real trail in March requires a whole lot of prep: tons of recovery gear, and keep-you-alive gear. I'm a huge proponent of chains; I haven't owned recovery boards and unless you have a half dozen of them, my first hand experience helping someone use them to get unstuck is that you make very slow and tiring progress... A winch and chains have got me through many challenging situations over the years.

If you don’t plan on coming to the mountains I wouldn’t worry too much about the snow, the front range is typically pretty mild. If it does snow follow @JDM advice.

It doesn't snow here anymore. Texas took it all.

I think they shipped it all back last week. I measured at least 2.5' in Golden.

Tried to get back into my garage after being out all day and got stuck for my troubles :)
