Heated seats are not standard (unless that changed in 2019). Remote start is an add in either from the dealer now on the new vehicles or you can buy one for under $200 and its a plug n play install..takes around 20-30mins.

Look up all the problems the 2016 Tacoma's' had, first model years are usually the worst to buy, even a Toyota...

I do not know. I would always check to make sure all features are factory installed, some guys mod them then trade them in.

Heated seats and remote starts are aftermarket additions for the TRD OR.

I snagged up a used 2016 TRD OR in Flagstaff for 29.5k. It can happen, but you will have to wait patiently.

Pretty standard warranty. 3 yr 36k, 5yr 50k. As a side note, I currently have a brand new fully loaded Cruze as a loaner vehicle from the dealer. I can’t decide if I like it, but its fun. I didn’t realize until I gunned it (then googled it) that it’s got a small turbo in there.

In my limited polls on the Colorado networks, it seems like the issues I’m experiencing are fairly common. A fair number of people have had the same experience. We’ll see if the dealer is able to resolve it, and who knows if it’ll just come back.... at 51k lol

I’m on my third Toyota 4wd pickup dating back to 1987. Love them. Zero issues. Honestly, the only thing I don’t like and never have is the rear drum brakes.

Oh, I had to edit my post. I did have the faulty head gasket issue on my 94. Toyota did recall and fix it however. That and a water pump that went out on my 87 after only 30k. That’s it.

I’m in Flagstaff actually. That’s surprising you were able to find that. When was it? And how many miles on it?

All manufacturers have quality issues, even the "bulletproof" Tacoma. I love my truck, enjoy it every time I drive it. But it hasn't always been that way. My truck is a 17, but was manufactured in mid-2016 while they were still ironing out (a lot of) kinks from the new generation. My truck was in the dealership more than any previous vehicle I've owned. Some for major issues, some minor but annoying. Some I just gave up on the dealer and handled myself.

But, with my truck now functioning as (or better than) designed, I am very happy with it. I wish it would have gotten to me issue free and I thought about ditching it but stuck with it. The truck handles anything I throw at it, I'm not a rock crawler but I do like to get off the pavement for similar reasons as you and I've been consistently surprised at how well this truck handles itself on multiple kinds of terrain. And, personal preference, but I hate the way the Colorado looks frankly. I think the Taco looks more like a beefy truck (despite the 3.5 6cyl under the hood). The interior looks more well put together and designed than the Colorado IMHO, but the rear space feels a bit smaller in the Taco vs. the Colorado.

Summary: If you love your truck except for the issues you're having, maybe you stick it out a bit and get them resolved before dumping it. You may just fall in love with the truck once you get your issues resolved. You won't go wrong with a switch to a Taco, but assume quality issues are prevalent on any brand so I wouldn't purely make your decision based on that.

I bought it the day it popped up online, coincidentally actually. Was investigating Tundras initially.

Mid October was when I bought it. Had 40k miles.

I rented a 4x4 V6 Colorado when I was out in Redmond, OR. Had it for two days. Apple CarPlay was great. Truck felt meh to me. Never been a huge Chevy fan, but the truck did what it was supposed to. Definitely not as comfortable on dirt roads as my stock TRD OR is. Too bouncy.

Definitely look at the bottom line and how much $ you'll outlay. Also, go for a long test drive as toyota ergonomics are a bit quirky and not compatible with everyone.

Nearly 50k miles on my 2016, zero issues and loving it.

I have a 2018 TRD Sport with the automatic transmission. It is the sixth Tacoma that my wife and I have owned. We have previously owned two Gen 2 V-6's with automatic transmissions. Both of these Gen 2's were much more pleasant to drive. My 2018 is the most erratic shifting vehicle that I have ever owned in sixty years of driving. I have had the most recent TSB done. I can only get what I consider to be satisfactory performance from my Gen 3 by driving in ECT S mode 4/5.

Nice. That’s great you found that deal.
Being in Flag, do you go to our local Toyota dealer? What’s your experience been like with them? So far, I’m not too fond of the Chevy one here. We bought the Collie down in Phx initially.

get a 2018+ the first two years had some issues, also you need to get OVTUNE for the automatic transmission or it is just not fun to drive. Aside from that its bullet proof.

Personally though wait for the New Ranger and test drive that as well its only a couple months away.

You and a previous poster bring up a good point about the Ranger. That could be well worth a test drive if we’re seriously thinking about trading in. That could be REAL dicey though being a new model and all.

I have the TRd off road 4x4 . coming from a Colorado u might be disappointed in the HP . these trucks are not fast but will get up and go .the transmissions on the automatic are bipolar . If your 6ft and above u can kiss comfort out the window .The seats have 2 adjustments no height adjustment . U will notice a slight buzz in the steering wheel at around 2k rpm some trucks have it worse some better .The manual ones 1st and 2nd gear pulls feels like a 5ton truck .The Stereo is just sad if u have anything less than the JBL system . But overall I love this bipolar bitch .Now this thing off road is pretty awesome . IMO this is by far the best looking midsize truck that will hold its value if u decide to get rid out it down the line .

Luck of the draw I suppose!

I dealt with Findlay Toyota, yes.

Brief backstory: We bought the wife a Subaru Crosstrek from the Subaru dealership up here. They had such a laid back approach to selling us the car that we really enjoyed it. Flag Subaru is great.

When I went to Toyota I worked with a salesman that had just transferred from Subaru. He too had the laid back approach. I was happy to work with him. I have been by the Toyota dealership in my Tundra to buy parts and I dealt with very aggressive random salesmen. Long story short, your experience will depend on who you happen to work with. I can pass on the name of the gentlemen I worked with if you would like.

Agreed, first year is risky. I had some minor pain with the tacoma, but nothing crazy - they fixed it under warranty.

0 complaints on mine, but I'm not the pickiest person in the world. The truck does everything I need it to do and does it well in my eyes.

That being said, make sure you do test drives, multiple ones. On this forum it seems that people have real issues with their tranny/engine while others dont seem to. Maybe its the person, maybe its the truck, probably a little of both.

I was just thinking if you could get it fixed to your satisfaction under warranty, would prolly be better financially to keep it. Maybe see what it would cost for an extended warranty. Don't have to buy it now, just before the current warranty runs out.

I think your main adversary here is the resell of your Colorado compared to Tacoma at this particular time.

Colorado's depreciate fast in the first few years of ownership, and then again after OE warranty expires.

Tacomas hold their value which is great for original owners not for people looking for gently used.

Also, lots of first timers bringing prices up on new Tacomas right now.

It just seems like bad timing.

If you were looking to get out of a Tacoma and into a used Colorado, the timing is perfect
