Yankee Doodle lake has them, plus the benefit of a little trail to get there. Rollins Pass is easy but has a couple puddles to go through to spice it up a little

All of the ones I caught were 5-12" or so, not big but you can cross the species off at least.

FYI - dolores is low and animas is shit rn. Below are the rankings of rivers in SW CO as of today

    1. San Miguel
    2. Dolores
    3. Animas

Tbh it may be best to hit San Miguel and focus on alpine lakes.

A few years ago I hit the Piedra River south of CO 160 and had a lot of fun, no monsters but plenty of fish.

The Green River through the Flaming Gorge in UT is spectacular if you're looking at surrounding states.

The CPW app has a neat feature that allows you to filter locations by species.

An easy (enough; high clearance stock has no problem) spot is Upper Urad Lake, or may be listed as Urad Reservoir. It's in an SWA. The hike along a vehicle road is short from the parking lot. From there you can walk around the whole thing on a foot trail. The far end is the most popular.

I caught my first one at Yankee Doodle. Further up that road/trail is Jenny Lake, and it purportedly has them, too.

I haven't been out in weeks. Life got crazy this month. But, I'm closing in on finishing my main level flooring install which will free me up. Kids are doing online school which eats up a chunk of my days when I'm home (still on a part-time work schedule for COVID).

Definitely need to get out and explore some small creeks again.

Didn't get out this past weekend. Depending on what my buddy can get worked out with his puppy, we're talking about hitting the Arkansas somewhere above Canyon City this next weekend.
What are you planning to hit this weekend?
