We should head up to Old Dillion resvoir and see if we can catch one of those Golden trout up there. Be warned, zero shade and very windy so choose your day wisely.

A few weeks ago at Bear Creek Lake —

Trout weren’t feeding so i had to use powerbait bottom rig. Good eating!

They might be pure cutts, but it's hard to tell. Cutts and Bows have been intermixed so long in some of the places, the lines can get kinda vague. I wouldn't base it on any one trail as it would depend on what subspecies of cutt was hybridized, and how much of each the fish has in it.

Here's one I caught last week with the cutt clearly showing.

I've tried chasing them in WY a little bit. Going to put some more effort into it this summer.

Throw away the spinning gear and venture away from the reservoirs full of stock and take fish and you'll find some too. :stirthepot: :p

Soooooo, there may not be goldens anymore in there. https://www.fishexplorer.com/co/fxrforum.asp?action=det&pid=74694 Someone reached out, and a biologist explained the experiment to produce a golden trout fishery did not work, and they stocked fingerling cutthroat "recently" (email is less than two months old at this point).

I know there's fish in there, as I went up a few weeks back for the afternoon and evening. They were rising or feeding just under the surface once the sun dipped behind the mountains. Being my first attempt at fly fishing, I didn't land anything, so can't say what they were (golden or cutthroat).

The CPW regs book still lists ODR having goldens. But, that was likely made before the cutthroat were stocked.

I won't have any "monsters" to share since I don't seem to catch any. :) But since lake trout was being discussed, here's the first one I caught (above Loch Lomand last year) using a bubble and dry fly (probably an Adams) on a spinning rod:

This one was a first for me yesterday. Pulled from a pond at nearly 9,000 feet:

Between Westcliffe and Texas Creek. Technically Hillside. Texas Creek seemed to have more rafters than fishers. It's a rough road up, mostly atv's/side by side's.

Dynamite.. jk. They're predator fish and eat pretty much anything. Pieces of fish, chicken, liver, etc would work

My grandfather had a camp/marina on Lake Ontario, Henderson Bay actually, and when we'd take the aluminum boat out fishing, he and my cousin would warn me to not drag my fingers in the lake while moving due to the northern pike. Those teeth are serious.
