IMO, the longer the better if it's going to be a dedicated euro rod. I'd stick to a 10' if you're planning on any of the hybrid leader systems.

Had mine break on first outing - never used - had to be a flaw. They make a shit load on warranty repair - it is part of their business plan.

Mending achievement unlocked! I've been gaining experience on moving waters this year. Also, I finally got gear for wading (both wet and with waders), and it all came together yesterday. Clear Creek has been on my list for some time since I've been skunked every time, but I knew it was due to a lack of knowledge and experience. I broke the skunk yesterday, putting seven in the net with the largest at around 10". They're still looking up (had one nose my indicator while using midges, so switched it up), so all but one was on the dry. It was so satisfying to make successful, successive mends to float that dry on the far side and get strikes... tells me I'm doing something right.

Nice job! Water like that can be pretty technical. If you're pulling fish then you're reading a lot of ques at once. Not always an easy task.

Scrolled thru the thread and noticed it's mostly fly fishing throughout. As avid of a fly fisherman I can be, I enjoy all methods of fishing. Anyone else enjoy getting out on hardwater?

We saw 70s on the front range this week. Longest period of time without snow in over 80 years and are still waiting in the first snowfall of the year.....

I enjoy tying... and catching on them! It's a bit addicting.

I did up some size 24 midges last time at the desk:

I needed some 24 midges but pickings were slim. Good work on those! They look legit!

i can definitely see how is becomes another rabbit hole! Especially in the winter

My goal is to fish throughout the winter for the first time. I hear the midge flies need to be tiny, so I bought the 24s to see if I could pull it off. I want to keep my box stocked with a variety of midges for winter.

Id say that depends on what river you are fishing. But yeah generally the flies are smaller in winter. Last year i had success on the standard 14 leeches and 10 moppers in the winter. Just have to play the deep pools and ensure the flies are down and in front of the fish. They dont like to move

which rivers are you trying to fish this winter?
